Zero_to_69 08-29-2003, 06:25 PM Hey all, I thought I'd share this sound file with
you. I'm pretty proud of it! After all the crap
I've been through, it's time to get the bragging
rights back
The motor needs air/fuel idle mix setting, a touch
more timing and jetting change but I can't get to
the shop until Tuesday to buy plugs.
I'll post some more stuff when I get back from
the long weekend.
It's compressed audio, but still sounds good.
If you want the AVI video, or wave file e-mail me,
they sound and look much better.
Turn it up LOUD and enjoy!
Have a great weekend everyone.
(right click and save to listen to the first audio link - much better than wmv)

talos 08-29-2003, 07:53 PM cool, is that a cold start? sounds pretty fast at idle.
u can hear mine, and its really slow at idle.. round 650 or so
Zero_to_69 08-30-2003, 08:48 AM Yes, good ear.
I'm just breaking in the cam and it's idling high because of the
tight lobe separation of 110 degrees.
When I stick it in gear and it levels to about 800 RPM, it really
'lumps', but it tends to stall out because I haven't tuned the
carb or timing yet.
My vacuum is so much lower at under 2000 RPM , my braking is
suffering! I think I put too much of a cam in this time, but hey...
you only live once. ;)
Damon 08-30-2003, 04:37 PM Yep, bit of a cam in her, huh? Sounds real good. Next time- open headers! Gotta hear the "crackle"!
CoryM 08-30-2003, 10:17 PM Sounds good man. Talos, he has just a *tad* more compression than you do. Thats what your car should sound like :D . You over 10.5:1 Zero? Sounds like well over that.
CoryM
Zedzag 08-30-2003, 11:24 PM That's the same cam I have. 800 in gear sounds right, not much lower or it'll stall.
Zero_to_69 08-31-2003, 12:49 PM Cory,
I'm not exactly sure what the true compression ratio is.
A compression test gives me 235 PSI (cold) , and using the
Desktop Dyno 2000 method, I ended up with slightly under 11:1
The head gaskets are Felpro steel mic'd to 0.017" compressed
and I also have the heads planed by 0.010".
I have no idea how much volume that would take out of the
72 cc chamber, so I just used 70 cc for the calculation.
Zed,
How much vacuum are you getting at idle? I'm only seeing about
7 in./hg. at operating temperature. I tihnk I have a dead cylinder
or even a small vacuum leak? Hmmmm...time for a tune up after
the break-in I guess....
1979Z28 08-31-2003, 04:15 PM Sweet sounding car :D Mind if I ask all of what you've done to the engine? I'm starting to get pissed off with my current engine, and yours sounds exactly like what I want mine to! :D :D
talos 08-31-2003, 04:16 PM what about mine  lol... ya it sounds nice... i like.
Zedzag 08-31-2003, 08:47 PM Zero: I have no idea how much vacuum I have...my guage is ****. My power brakes work pretty good
stale 09-01-2003, 11:56 AM I love the sound of a good ol' loping cam setup. When I rebuild my 327 in the next couple of months I'm gonna get it more aggressive like that. Great sounding car!
If you want to send me that .wav file you have, I can do a much better mp3 compression for you. That .wma file has a lot of hiss to it.
Zero_to_69 09-01-2003, 10:16 PM For Stale, Zed, 1979 and Talos:
79Z28,
I'll give you (or anyone else) a complete break down of my engine
and setup if you e-mail me at: tdese739@rogers.com
Talos,
I saw your car and heard the sound file, nice high rev tone! I
like that cowl too.
Zed,
No worries, I'm surprised to see such a drop in vacuum from a
Crane Energizer 282/282', .480/.480", 114 LSA. I had close to
14 in./hg. before - now it's half!
Stale,
Thanks for the offer. I'll send that right away! I'm using Sound
Forge at the moment; what about you?
