Monsoon help!!!

Hey everyone, i have a couple questions. I have a 99 Z28 with a monsoon system. I want to replace my head unit and speakers. I had a 94 Z28 with a Bose system before and when i changed the head unti i had to change the speakers because i was told they were individually amped. Is this the same with the Monsoon system? If i change the head unit, do i have to change the speakers? If I do change the speakers, will a 50Wx4 head unit be able to power all 6 speakers or will I need to install my amp? Any aditional information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the help!!!

Most monsoon systems are set up the same.. the bose speakers/monsson speakers are genneral a different resistagce or impediance than what an aftermarket application can handel so you have to by pass the amps and all replace all the speakers. good luck

what if i want to replace just one speaker in the monsoon system? i have a blown door speaker.

will any average speaker replace it?

No. The door woofers are 2ohms. The industry standard is 4ohms. The higher impedance means that the new speaker will only get about half as much power as the stocker did.

damnit...so now what do i do? junkyard or the dealer right?

It doesn't matter if you have Bose or Monsoon, if you replace the head unit, you DO NOT have to change the factory speakers. With the Bose/Monsoon systems, they have external amps. On an aftermarket head unit, there is a remote turn on. THIS MUST BE HOOKED UP! If not, you won't get any sound. It's a blue wire. Hope this helps.

One more thing that I forgot. If you do replace the speakers, you need to run all new speaker wire to each speaker. If you don't, they will run through the factory amp. This may cause a loss of sound quality.

I have the 6 speaker set up 2 door 2 bseat 2 rear. the back seat speakers don't work i purchased the car with a pionnerr head unit in it. I now just put a new pioneer in it. So is my door speakers on a 1994 firebird 2 or 4 ohm, can I just change them out. Why is not by back speakers working?

Thanks for the help. I thought my rear speakers were not working on my 99 when i first bought it. But as i listened closer, i realized that they were working, they were only putting out bass. The speakers in the back seat are meant as woofers, so turn the bass up a lil and listen very closely, if u still don't hear anything then you'll need to change them. Hope this helps.

You dont need to hookup the remote turnon, the amp is switched on automatically when it senses voltage in the input lines.

whenever my door speakers have blown i have bought a new speaker off a member from the classifieds.
