2000CAMAROZ28 08-26-2003, 11:41 AM heres my problem. i bought the new diablosport predator tuner/diagnostic programmer for my 2000 LS1. it is supposed to eliminate the top speed limiter on the car. when i tuned the car, the limiter was still there. when i went into the speed limiter folder to change it, it said that there was no info available. i was wondering if someone could help me by explaining what needs to be done to remove the limiter with this programmer. i know that in the programmer, it has something about ticks and that you can buy more from the manufacturer. is this what i need to do to enable the speed limiter option? please help me, i am tired of POS imports beating me on the highway at top speeds! i would appreciate any info that anyone can give me. thank you.

AL SS590 M6 08-27-2003, 03:10 AM Just get a hold of the dealer you bought it from or Diablo Sport and tell them that the speed limiter isn't removed and they'll fix you right up for free. Probably over the internet by e-mailing you a new program to load into your programmer.

Imports beating you at top speeds? So you're trying to highway race at speeds over 160?

I was thinking the same thing...but thought I was missing something in the original post. I don't know where that LIMITER is set at but hitting 145MPH myself with no quit in the LS1 what import is beating you at those speeds? If I ever grow more balls maybe I'll find out what the speed limiter is set to, but for now....

I meant that racing on the highway at that kind of speed is totally ignorant. People who drive like that and accidentally get someone killed should have their throat cut. Keep it at the track.
Schismblade 08-27-2003, 04:29 PM Yeah, you really shouldn't be driving a 4th gen Z28. Anybody who races at speeds over 160 mph on a public highway has no business even driving.
Keep it at the track.
robvas 08-27-2003, 04:41 PM People
If he got the non-Z-rated tires, his car cuts out at 108mph
Apologize to the poor guy.
2000CAMAROZ28 08-27-2003, 05:09 PM sorry it took so long to get back. but i tried to get in touch with the dealer and had no luck. im gonna try getting a number this time instead of email. and for you other guys, the limiter cuts off at 116. so every import and their mother can go faster than that. and its not like i race every car i see on the highway, but when someone screws with chevy power, you have to defend it, right?
and if any has used this tuner before or knows someone who has used it, please get back to me with what they had to do to get rid of the limiter. thanks again to the more helpful guys!!

FWIW, limiters are usually set for the tire speed rating sold on the car. When you remove the 116 limit, it's a REALLY good idea to have tires rated for the speeds you plan to run. V, Y or Z preferred.
Sure I've gone over 116 on the highway, but I've not tapped the 140+ speed capability of my LT1 Impala or my C5 on the road. The cars (and probably the driver) are capable, but the rest of the drivers and road hazards aren't really capable of handling problems at those speeds.
If you can't shut down the ricer by a buck twenty, give it up. As others said, it isn't worth it....especially on low rated tires.
I've never had a problem with a HPP. Sorry, no experience with your programmer.
Maybe it looks at the tires and decides whether to reprogram top speed or not. :)
My $.02
cdmelcher 08-27-2003, 05:33 PM thats all well and good, except for the part "looks at the tires", what? ANYWAY, why would a rare few Z28's come with a speed limter of 116-118mph? Yes, I agree with the right rated tires for speed, I would only buy Z rated tires. Why?- if I drive an LS1 it better take me to 140-145 NOW and then or might as well drive monte carlo.....
next I'm gonna here there are some SS's & WS6's with speed limiters on them....guess I'm out of control NOT wanting my Z28 cutting out at 116mph.....
hurricaine418 08-27-2003, 07:26 PM as far as driving 160mph on busy public roads, yes that is stupid. but i took mine from coast to coast, and in montana (daytime) and arizona still have/had roads with no speed limits. other places too like outside of las vegas. so legally going full speed on a straight road with noone is sight----quite a thrill. but agreed its not for the metro areas.
Greed4Speed 08-27-2003, 08:01 PM I agree on running properly rated tires. The guy that bought my 70 SS took it out and was running it @ 120mph w/ S rated tires on a hot day. Both fronts blew, after he slowed down luckily.

Because some people did not check the box which had the option for Z-rated tires and saved a few pennies. :(
Whether it was a wise decision or not, is very debatable...

I have a Predator and I already told you what you have to do. Have patience and be persistant.
JaysGone 08-28-2003, 12:45 AM :D Yes a few 2000 Z28s without the performance option have a lower speed limiter setting. I made that mistake with my 96 and almost got flattened by a 18 wheeler when the cyl started to cut out as I was passing on a 2 lane road. Traded that car right in on my 98 and made sure it had the performance options. Tire ratings for S,T,U are all under 124mph for 1 hour. W,V,Z are all Hi speed ratings. If you wanted to save some money and buy 245-50-16s in a T rating you really arent going to hurt anything in my opinon. I have no desire to drive 112mph for an hour at a time. You can get the same temp and traction ratings save ALOT of money over a Z rated and get 3X the tread life. Its all up to you and your driving style.
Aneurysm 08-28-2003, 06:39 PM Why do you all have speed limiters? Up here in Canada, My SS has no top limit. I have taken it to over 250 and then backed down, simply because i was getting freaked out going that speed. It was still pulling strong too.

hurricaine418 08-28-2003, 09:40 PM any program to overwrite the limiter to go over 163mph?

That's right any programmer can delete the limiter.

Im not trying to argue with you...are there any places around or in Texas where theres no speed limit? I wanna go to one!

I was thinking the same thing. 250 mph would be insane. I got freaked out at 135, I can't even fatham 250. And if his car can go 250 mph what mods does he have?
2K2-Z28 10-29-2003, 12:36 PM 250 miles an hour, Huh? What are your mods? Where the HELL can I get them
Obviously he is talking in Kph. Without a front airdam you would be a dead man at anything over 200mph.....perhaps sooner.:death:
