ok my 98Z28 M6 has 60K miles and is knocking on the bottom end...shavings are on the drain bolt (im thinking a rod bearing is on it's way out) w/labor included, stock components, and new rings, bearings, do you guys think it can be done for under 2K??? im thinking i could probably re-use the crank/rods...maybe pistons??

well i think you can resleve the LS1- i never built one.

so pistons yes. i'm guessing the rod bearings went so you will probobly want new rods.

crank might be able to be turned.

$2000? HA!

gaskets and machine work and assembly will cost you that much- well 3/4 of it. then add new oil system, timing chain and the whole 9 yards- it adds up REALLY quick. and will ALWAYS cost 2x what you plan.

A rod bearing wearing out will have no effect on the rods unless you let it go to the point that you break the rod. If the car has a lot of miles then you'll need new .005 over pistons with rings and a hone job. New rod and main bearings, new rod bolts, and either your crank turned or a new crank. You'll also want new cam bearings installed, new cam chain set, and a new oil pump.
All total you might get there for $2000 but I doubt it.

Damn, these motors cost alot to be rebuilt hunh? I had an old 350 SBC rebuilt for 1,500. I Supplied most of the parts. How much does a brand new LS1 cost? That might be the route u way want to go, cause a rebuild will barely last over 100k miles.
