3.4 or 3.8

I was wondering which camaro I should buy. One with a 3.4L or one with a 3.8L.

I know the 3.4 came in camaros from 1993 to 1995. And the 3.8 has been used since 1996. Just wanted to know your thoughts. Thanks

no doubt a 3.8. I've had both and I can tell you that the 3.8 has way more horsepower then the 3.4. Your talking 160 for a 3.4 vs. 200 for a 3.8

Go with the 3.8. I had one before I got my Z and it was impressive for a 6.

why would anyone even ponder about a 3.4 - unless the had a lot of money for repairs. ITS 10 YEARS OLD ALREADY!

Well on that note how about a Z28. Would you buy an older Z28 or a newer V6? But nothing beyond a 93 and nothing newer than a 97.

I sold my 96 3.8 and got the 94 Z28 in my sig. I guess its personal preference, I wanted the HP.

i wanted HP to, but i didnt want to worry about the car breaking down. a 10 year old car has got to break down eventually (sooner than a newer car would) and a Z28 - unless you know grandma was only driving it back and forth to work, can you imagine what that engine/tranny/suspension has gone through. i had planned on buying an old LT1, but my plan was to rebuild the motor. so with that in mind, i did want an old engine, but i knew i was going to spend some cash fixing it up.

3.8 definetly. I have flogged mine since I bought it new and the only thing I have broke was a idler pully came apart. 105thousand miles and she runs as good as she did the day I picked it up. And in stock form with a descent driver you can still out pull a new V8 mustang light to light.

That question is a no-brainer...:) (aside from the 40 extra HP) The 3.8 is, hands down a way better engine in every respect.

it maybe 10 yrs old but the 3.4 is one of hte most reliable engines ever built, GM has used it on a ton of cars and they run forever if taken care of, plus, parts for it is DIRT CHEAP....

Get a 3.4 and turbo it like Tiago,or get a Z28.The 3.8 is a good motor and so is the 3.4.Niether will get good numbers at the track unless you turbo the 3.4 or supercharge the 3.8.If you just want a fun reliable car, either will work.Good luck.

I have a better idea:

Get the Z28 and have Tiago turbocharge it!

Tiago, loved your videos - I watched every one of them.

Go with the 3.8 but how about a Trans Am instead of the Camaro? Mine's for sale :D Nothing like 330HP and 397ft/lbs of torque out of a 3.8L V-6 :p

the 3.4 has a larger aftermarket than the 3.8 if you know where to look, but unless your willing to take the motor apart to get a different cam and do some headwork i'd get a 3.8
