keep them or loose them?

thinking of what mod to do next i've seen some fast ls1's with 2.73's but the majority have 3.73's or other higher gears. i'm not to surious just plan to take the car to the track 1 or 2 times a year is there any other cheaper more gas friendly mods i can do to net better 60's and pull some good times. as of right now with the 2.73's tractions not an issure i can barly break the tires loose at WOT from a stop. so what mods can help me with this

Drag radials, 2.73's, and a dry shot. You'll haul balls and still have traction.

You might want to think about getting a converter.

yea i really like my tranny and a TC would be kinda of expensive considering i really don't get on the car that much but i dry shot sounds pretty good

keep the sugestions coming

I say keep the 2:73's and just get bolton's

SSRA or FTRA
LID
Ported TB
ASP pully
Headers Mac's or LT
Nitrous is always good

What do you want out of your car

huh what do i want out of my car ?

well just to be a little faster then stock my goal was to get into the 12's and be anywhere from 12.9 - 12.5 i'm sure i can do that with the 2.73's but with witch bolt ons

I think I have to agree with the "keep the gears" crowd. If you don't plan to drag race your car a lot, keep the 2.73's and do other bolt-ons. According to my sig, my car has 3.73's, but I actually have them swapped back to the original 2.73's (I know, I know:rolleyes: )..........the problem was, they whined SO BAD:mad:.........I couldn't take it:(. However, since I swapped back to the originals, I think I actually prefer the car this way --- it seems to work better all around, vs just being quick off the line.

I think tires are probably one of the biggest factors in getting good 60' times...........I mean, your 60' time totally indicates your traction, and traction is gained or lost depending on your tires. I managed to cut a 2.0 60' time with both the 3.73's and 2.73's at the track because the 2.73's are less prone to break loose. As long as you can get good traction, do other mods to your car to increase your RWHP, and keep the 2.73's........then you'll still have a quick 1/4 mile car, AND a car that's good on the highway and gets good mileage;).

Just my $.02 (which is all I have left after purchasing 3.73's and paying for the install and their removal again:().

get the slp blem lid...i still cant figure out what part of mine is the blem to be honest and for $50 cheaper then all the other lids and probably the same hp gain id stick with that every time...go nitrous...a cam swap would cost you somewheres in the range of 1000 bucks nitrous would cost about the same but give you 30-200 more hp then that dinky cam would. No nitrous shot is safe with a moron but if you take all the precautions that come with the territory a 75-100 shot is your best bet id always lean to the lesser of the two just to be super safe...youd still gain about 6mph in the 1/4 mile which would be good enough on a stock car to go mid 12's.

ok well I have decided to leave the 2.73 and just get some bolt on's.

I’ve already placed an order for my lid but lets say a buddy and I go to the track this weekend I have a 98 with 2.73's and he has a 99 with 3.23 how close will this come both cars are stock besides my cutout? he seems to think that because I have so called granny gears(2.73) I stand no chance I know he has the edge but how much of an edge?

so basically 2.73 vs 3.23 1/4 mile how much diff assuming we get equally good launches

2-3 tenths tops bone stock...i think mariahs TA ran 13.5's stock at 105 with 2.73's so you wont be far behind. Those hitting the traps at the top of second gear isnt gonna be the biggest thrill of your day :)

that doesn't sound to depressing you think with the 2.73's lid cutout and ftra i could dip into the 12's

Possible, but im not into the whole picking up rocks off the ground to get good air ram air systems, but thats me. I'd just go with a 3500 stall converter and shift kit...that would get you into the 12's with your cut out.
