is a 6 psi vortech blower too much for a stock Lt1?

Look over to the forced induction section. But as I stated in the past it can be done, but always plan for a rebuild in the future. If you do not have the money for a rebuild wait until you do.
I would say at a bare minimum for a stock motor you need to get a dyno tune/computer redone, get a intercooler of some kind and make sure the motor is running properly, if somthing is going south on the car(everything from rear-end, tranny, to motor) it will show up fast on a SC car. I would also recommend getting a bigger aftermarket radiator to keep engine temps down. Hope this helps. I got a 6# vortech unintercooled. You need it tuned properly and you have to use controlled driving habits. I will be getting alky injection soon... and intercooler or some kind of air charge cooler is necessary.

You really never know. I know someone that ran 10#'s of intercooled boost (ATI) with a stock bottom end for over a year without issues. I know another guy who ran 8#'s of intercooled boost (ATI) with a stock bottom end for only 3 days before it blew. :eek: Both had dyno tuning done. Yet another guy I know ran 6.5#'s non-intercooled boost (PD) without issues for over 3 year on a stock shortblock. So you never know. :cool:

The best advice I can give you is that if you can't afford a rebuild, don't get a supercharger. 7 psig is as high as you should go on an otherwise stock LT1. However, with that being said, some have fried pistons with just a 4.5 psig Powerdyne. Nothing is "for sure" when it comes to forced induction. 6 or 7 psig is *usually* safe but you shouldn't be the farm on it.
