218/224
218/224
Have a virtual beer with me, cheers.
The 218/224 is done.
Took me ~ 6 +12 +8 +3 = 29 hours including installing the CSI, but not including gathering supplys.
I haven't wired up the final waring ciruct on the CSI, but i'm sure my eyes will be glued to the gauges for the next week anyways.
It started right up, but takes ahwile to settle into it's idle.

That isn't the actual inital startup, but.
It took awhile fo rit to settle into it's idle. I thought it would be slightly more choppy, but i still really like it. It runs very well on the stock programming. I haven't romped on it yet, but ther are no Ill manners and still great low end torque.
I'm gonna get it dyno tuned ater some more break-in. A track trip too.
I still have to clean up al the tools and that crap

Congratulations on the install! I think you will love that cam makes great power and is still a very driveable car. The first time I took mine out to the track after the cam, heads, and headers first pass in 1.8th mile was 8.2 at almost 89mph and managed to get a 7.9 at 90 before the night was over. Great cam I love it. That was back in January so the air was definately in my favor.
That same cam went into my car this past weekend. I am anxious to see how it runs. I'm a few more weeks away from firing it up due to a couple other issues. Does it sound stock? (I tried to DL the mpg but my computer rides the little yellow bus)You should bring it down here so I can check it out. We could BS about the wiring also.

It definitly made a difference, but your right that it's not a dead giveaway. Some people might just think that is the freer flowing exhaust. Now here's a real cam:

After i changed the oil i took it out for another spin. Still keeping below 2500. It started running just slightly rougher under light load, shaking a lil more at idle, and making some valve noise. I guess a rocker came loose. :MAD:I think it was valve noise clack and not a knock or something!
The oil pressure was still very good so hopefully it's not a bearing or something and just a rocker came loose. I guess i'd better check all of the rockers. This right after i put back on the PITA slp egr (it's blocked but there to look good lol) which needs to come back off to get to the valve cover. It was 3AM at that point and i was sloppy drunk with sleepyness so thats why i'm not even sure what the sound was. I had to ghetto repair a sparkplug wire end fitting, but since it ran smooth at first I don't think thats it.
Yeah, I'm going to have bryan dynotune it in the next couple weeks. I figure i want t dyno to see what i picked up from the exhuast and cam, and since it will stay like this for quite some time i might as well have it dialed in. He's going to load a new program for me on thursday. I'm going to say something to him about leaving the idle alone. It sounds perfect now, i don't want it smoothed out. It's just a nice sound, but not a built strip monster sound that i can't back up with results, perfect IMO. I was actually really surprised how well it ran on the stock tune, before for this loose (hopefully) rocker. Then again everyone does call this a 'baby cam'. Hopefully it's no baby on the dyno though.
When I say his tuning smoothed things out, it didn't really change the sound of the car at all, the biggest thing I noticed from it was how the car would return to idle when coming to a stop. Before his tuning it used to hang around 2000rpm for 3-5 seconds after I came to a stop with it out of gear which was pretty annoying. He did something to get rid of that problem. I really didn't drive it hard for the first week I had the cam in while I was breaking it in, I had him program it that same week so I didn't really notice a big performance increase. I started beating on it again right after his tuning
The specs on that sound pretty similar to the hotcam, I'm very pleased with the results I've gotten so far from this little cam
Do you ever run yours at Maple Grove or Cecil? I'm at Maple Grove a lot on Friday nights, I'm going to Cecil this Sat for their t&t day, you should bring her down and see what she'll do now

I ran at maple on that pontiac only sunday ~2wks ago. Sorry you weren't invited, haha. It was in the 90s, 2100-2400 DA for the day. I pulled out a 13.2@106 on a 1.95. I wanted to go back at night for a 12 sec slip precam, but i decided to get the cam in.
I think my cousin and I are going to go the 29th before we leave for school. I wanna give it some time and switch back to synthetic before i get crazy on it. Hopefully bryan can find time to dyno tune it sometime that week.

I think it definitly made my exhaust a lil tinny/raspy at med throttle mid 2k rpms, maybe i need a second bullet
jk i'll deal with it. I think i'll put the cat in anyways after the tune and track.
Yeah, it's tough getting into the 12's without a cam or rr's, I finally made a couple 12.9x runs last November in some real good weather before doing the cam. I should be there on the 29th, we'll have to line up for a few runs

By the way it sounds good.
