How can you identify if you have speed density or mas air flow? did all camaros from 1990 have speed density??
because i see in some pics there is a sensor going into the airbox, I heard this of for speed density??but i don't have one of these. could this affect the car?
thanks

90-93 had speed density. The maf sensor does not go in the air box rather inline between the tb and air box.If your car is maf and you don't have a maf sensor your car would be running extremly sh!tty. It would run really bad.

Pre 90 is MAF. There would be a black colored thing that looks like a soda can with wires coming from it in the path from the TB to the airbox.

I know what the MAF looks like, but what I am talking about is in the airbox, its smaller, has like one wire going to it, looks like an oxygen sensor, its like right inbetween the air filters and the TB on the driver's side. I think its the air temp sensor, now I don't have one of these, So this can affect the air/fuel mixture i think??
but I have no clue where the wire would be to put one back in.
thanks

That sounds like the MAT sensor. Many people relocate it from the bottom of the plenum to the airbox so that the ecm reads a colder air temp and is supposed to give you more power.
I did it on my car, but I did so much to it at one time that I didn't get a before and after test.

If you email me at shwine617@aol.com I can show you a pic of what I am talking about, thanks!

It gives you more power but you would be always be running richer than you should. AFAIK, that sensor should be in the plenum area. According to my diagrams, you should have a 2 wire sensor. One black and one tan. The black is the common ground and the tan is the signal.

If it's any help, I used! to have a 89 RS 3.8 5spd that had exactly what your talking about. I belive it was a MAT or air temp sensor. And I'm 75% sure it had a mass air flow sensor as well, but not positive. Sorry for not giving you any sold info.

The V6 cars it was in the snorkel, the V8's its in the intake manifold itself, thats where you're confused.

ohh ok, now i see, where is it in the manifold? thanks

It's in the underside of the plenum (the plenum is the long center piece on top where the runners attach)
