I need the Y pipe...will it route to my magnaflow exhaust...or will I need custom work done? Is it mandrel bent? Do you have any pics on it, I couldn't find any? Also, is it 3" in and out? I need one ASAP.

JOHN
EDIT: it is for a 97 engine

Online, the price is 169.99. I don't exactly know what shipping is, but would be interested in finding out. The pipe looks really good. Is it stainless steel or aluminum? Probably aluminum.

Yeah, that is what is on the website...
93-97 LT1 HOK16765 Hooker LT1 Y-Pipe $169.99
Are there different ones. What is it made out of?

jon_we4
08-16-2003, 12:58 AM
We are talking about the Hooker y-pipe for 169.99 ... $18 about for shipping

The pipe is aluminized

The only other pipe made for these headers is the mufflex .... this is a much better value and fit.

Hey Jon,
Have you guys put this on any cars yet?
The kink on the driver side looks like it would keep the pipe from banging on the floor.
How is the fit and finish?

StreetChaos
08-20-2003, 09:07 AM
How does this compare to the Mufflex Y-pipe? Will this bolt up perfectly to hooker LTs and the mufflex 4" exhaust? Is this for LT1 or LS1 motors? If it is what I need, I will be ordering ASAP. I need one now.

jon_we4
08-20-2003, 06:38 PM
It does take some work to get it on, its not really 100% bolt on. The mufflex has a little more adjustability.

This y-pipe is for LT1 Hooker headers.

If you were using the 4" catback I would go with the mufflex y-pipe

pennys58
08-20-2003, 07:09 PM
Plus, I was told by LS1 that they were "slip on" and not "bolt on". So no gaskets or hardware was required. I can't wait to get it in.

Just bolted mine on today. I had to cut the two main tubes about 1.5 inches each to move the tubes in closer together to bolt to my jethot long tubs. After that it fit great. I had to get a piece of 3" tubing about 13" long to connect to my borla. After I got it all set up it looks great. I have about 5" of clearence between my collector and the ground. The ypipe stays higher then that all the way back.

Jon_we4,

How does this y-pipe fit with the hooker long tube headers?? Also, is this y-pipe made to fit around the BMR driveshaft safety loop?? I have a 3" mandrel bent ypipe now, but when we made it, we forgot to put the DSL up there at this time. If you would please get back to me I would greatly appreciate it.

I just did my header install last weekend and the hooker y-pipe is off a few inches. I installed it on Jet Hots and tomarrow i have to have the y-pipe modded to fit the headers. Everything fits fine EXCEPT one of the tubes is off. It does come with a one tube bent down to fit under the little tranny cross member thing. But I got mine for $129.99 with a price match and thats better than paying a crap load for the mufflex.

pennys58
08-28-2003, 10:51 PM
How much modding to the pipe did you have to do. That seems like a p.i.t.a. I'm still hopping I have no problems bolting this thing up...I mean that's why I bought the thing...to easily fit up to the "hooker headers".

CrippleFightin
08-29-2003, 12:55 AM
The modding will be done tomarrow, but I think all it will be is alot of pushing and pulling to get it on.

ok, if you look at the top pic on the right of the long tube headers on this website,,, http://www.jet-hot.com/pages/newheaders.html the end of the headers that connect to the y-pipe, looks like a 3" pipe, that just got cut straight off, then if you look at the pic of the y-pipe
www.ls1speed.com/pictures/1.jpg
www.ls1speed.com/pictures/2.jpg

the part where the y-pipe meets up w/ the header, the y-pipe has like a 3 bolt flange on it, how do you meet the two up?

ya, seriously guys, does the pipe fit or not?

FYI, the pics you're referring to on the Jet-Hot website are of their LS1-style headers, not the LT1 headers. The two inner primaries on LT1 headers are side-by-side where they meet the head flange and are therefore not evenly spaced across the flange. The 93-97 (LT1) Jet-Hot headers come with a 3-bolt flange already welded on them. I know this because I have a set sitting in my garage waiting on installation. :D

My Pics:

Based on the pictures of the LT1 Hooker LT y-pipe and the Jet-Hot LTs sitting in my garage...it should bolt up with minor adjustments. I would buy one and install it just to show this but I'm waiting on Jet-Hot to release their dual-cat y-pipe sometime this fall. :)

So how does it smell?:p :D

Thanks for letting us know what you think but the Mufflex pipe has a few people that say it fits perfectly while A BUNCH of others say that the fit is horrible. With all of the people that have been buying these Iwas hoping to get more than one opinion. Thanks again for your input though.

CrippleFightin
09-17-2003, 11:24 PM
The Mufflex is 4" compared to the Hooker which is 3" But the Hooker is about $100 cheaper and fits better. The Hooker Y already has a dent in the pipe to clear the tranny crossmember. With the Mufflex, alot of people had to shave down the cross member to make it fit. I say why pay $100 more for something that you have to modify your car to use. I am perfectly happy with the Hooker Y.

Oh and since I have no cats, it stinks. ;)

Summit Racing sells it for $129.99. But they are out of stock. www.ls1speed.com has them for $169.99, but they price match. So price match it to Summit and you get it now for $129.99.

Summit just told me again tonight that the price is $169.95 and that it will be 4 OR MORE weeks until they get anymore to sell. Maybe they realized that there was a demand and boosted the price up.

Just a note for you guys willing to wait for a y-pipe...Jet-Hot is producing a dual-cat y-pipe (with cats that can be swapped with straight pipes in minutes) to fit their Jet-Hot LTs (LT1) and they are targeting a release date sometime in October. Plus, theirs will be Jet-Hot ceramic coated! Just an FYI for those of you whom are looking for a y-pipe setup...

Yeah, At the begining of the year they said they would have a y-pipe for us LT1 guys by the end of the Summer. Still haven't seen it. I love thier products but I wouldn't wait for a new one. You may never see it.

Jeff D.

Mr.Whitey
09-20-2003, 10:15 PM
I was going to say the same thing. They aren't the only company to say that an LT1 product is "just around the corner...maybe another month or two". That's qouting Joey @ SLP about long tubes for the LT1. That statement was made about 18 months ago. I am not waiting for the JetHot version of the y-pipe since, as you noted, they are already well behind the promised date and haven't even offered info concerning a revised release date or even an update for that matter. If they said that it's now going to be late Fall I wouldn't expect it until late Spring at the earliest.

BitCypher
09-21-2003, 06:39 AM
To each his/her own. I've waited 4 months so far for a dual-cat y-pipe offering from Jet-Hot and I can wait a little longer (gotta save up some more money anyway). Everyone thinks companies should be able to churn this stuff out overnight. Considering the vast market of vehicles that Jet-Hot deals with, and their primary business of offering a coating service, I can understand why their R&D efforts take a little longer than usual. Looking at the quality of my Jet-Hot LTs I have no reason to complain compared to other companies' offerings. No one else offers a complete dual-cat y-pipe setup except FLP and that's too expensive for my wallet - so I'll wait for Jet-Hot. I'll agree though that I'm only willing to wait so long. Since I've only waited 4 months so far, my patient is still fairly intact at this point. :o If it doesn't come by mid-November though I'm going another route. But kudos to them (Jet-Hot) for taking the time to do it right, even if it pushes our patience to the limit.

BitCypher

This price is not through a group purchase, it's the standard price ($169) for the Hooker unit. That's really cheap compared to the Mufflex y-pipe ($250). I can't imagine a GP would lower the price much more...
