White01ss 08-08-2003, 06:35 PM I am buying a 2001 Artic White Z28/SS I need to know if there is anyway to tell if it is a true SS or a car someone has put aftermarket parts on. I am buying it out of LasVegas and I don't want to pay a transport fee if it is not a true SS. The VIN is 2G1FP22G712127123. I also see all of these people say they have SS # ?????? what exactly does that mean? Also can anyone tell me if this car is a good deal it has 33154 miles and is an M6. The one thing that makes me wonder if it is a SS though is that it has cloth interior. Thanks for all of the help. Steve
White01ss 08-08-2003, 06:37 PM Sorry The Cost of the car is $19,999.00
Annv Z28 08-08-2003, 06:43 PM get a car fax on that vin..it will tell you..And leather was an option on the ss not standard
White01ss 08-08-2003, 07:47 PM Car Fax doesn't show anything I can see that say SS. What should it say.
Aklaim 08-08-2003, 07:58 PM Ask for a picture of the RPO codes. check for RPO code "WU8"
That designates an SS. Ask to see the SLP sticker too. It may or may not have one. If it doesnt, its ok, some SS' do not have them.
AZWingNut 08-08-2003, 08:03 PM Call SLP @ 1-248-288-3066 and give them the VIN.
White01ss 08-08-2003, 08:09 PM OK, If it has WU8 on the build codes then it is an SS for sure right? So what does it mean like AZWingNut has 2002 Camaro SS #384. Do all SS's have the same options or is there a way to find out what options this one has. I can't see the car because it is across the country from me. Also is 19,999.00 an ok price if it is a true SS.
Thanks
Steve
dubyaesssix 08-08-2003, 08:16 PM Since you have the vin# you should be able to take it to a local gm dealer to find out. GM dealers are tied into website called GM
Dealerworld. Under dealerworld there are various links for sales, service, body shop, and etc. Under the service section there is a link called "gmvis" where they can pull up a build sheet for the car. They can also give you a warranty service history on the car. It has other useful information also. The site is designed for internal use but I think a reputable dealer wouldn't mind getting this info for you. Good luck.
AZWingNut 08-08-2003, 08:17 PM My car was #384 of 11,191 SS's produced by SLP in 2002. If the drivers door has WU8 it is an SS. Try and see if there is an SLP sticker on the Passengers side, this will list SLP options such as the 345HP Package. No sticker on the pass. door means a base SS, like mine.
White01ss 08-08-2003, 08:30 PM Thanks, Wingnut how did you determine your car was #384??
chpmnsws6 08-08-2003, 08:51 PM you get ahold of slp and they will tell you
markss2001 08-08-2003, 09:38 PM I dont know about the WU8 stuff,
my SS is real, bought it new, and i cant seem to find a WU8 code anywhere? And i have a build # from slp.

Some where on that list of RPOs it should say WU8. Lots of the fake SSs don't even add all the visual stuff. My friend saw one a couple weeks of ago at a dealership that didn't have the spoiler, instant give away. Scary thing is he saw that at the dealership I baught my car from. But I know for sure mine is real.
landonew 08-09-2003, 02:13 AM The black book value on that car with those miles is anywhere from $19,475 to $23,750 depending on condition and features. Hope that helps.
White01ss 08-09-2003, 10:03 AM Thanks, that does help. One more question did all of these cars have TTop roof panels. I haven't talked to this guy in a day or 2 but the picture looks like a TTop but it doesn't list in on the options. I can't tell if it may just be painted black.

Steve
badpewterz 08-09-2003, 03:27 PM it is a ss but no t-tops
t-tops would be CC1
Schismblade 08-09-2003, 04:45 PM Can you tell what SLP options the car came with?

dude, you can get a SS with hard top and crank windows/ manual locks if you want. SS is not luxuary items, it is performance:
Ram air hood
Free flow exhaust
17" wheels
high rise spoiler
(A4 3:23 Gears)
And some had things like power steering cooler and other small items.
Granted cuz most SS were in the upper 20's to 30K area most people who spent that much money got the leather seats, T tops, & power doo dads.

For added SLP content there would be a RPO code Y2Y.
It isn't there so it's a standard SS.
White01ss 08-10-2003, 10:19 AM AL, since the list that grandprix sent has this line in it
YF5 - CALIFORNIA EMISSIONS Y2Y - SALES PACKAGE CAMARO SS DUAL
What kind of options does it mean it has??
graham 08-10-2003, 11:41 AM Have you called SLP yet? You could get all these answers in 5 minutes or less.
kevinss2001 08-10-2003, 12:12 PM Not every ss is a t-top. You have the option of t-top, convertible, or a coupe (hardtop). I have an 01 and it is a coupe. These are much rarer than the t-top cars. By the way contact slp and they can help you out with the vin # and if it is a true ss.
White01ss 08-10-2003, 12:17 PM Thanks, I plan to call SLP first thing Monday. I originally posted this at about 6pm on Friday so I have not been able to call. I appreciate all of the help with this. I am amazed at all of the positive response I have received on this board I hope I can find other people in my area (i.e Camaro Clubs etc...) Thanks again for all of the help
Steve
Loader 08-10-2003, 04:37 PM Not all SS models are T-Top.
SLP has all build numbers. Go to the SLP site and put in the VIN. They'll give you the build number. That's how I verified my car is a real SS.
I just went and looked - yes, the WU8 code is in the code list on the driver's door and yes, there is an SLP sticker on the passenger door with the build date (11/99) and the SLP options such as performance exhaust.
Thanks! I didn't know that!
White01ss 08-10-2003, 05:12 PM Exactly where do you put in your VIN on the SLP site I am going to www.slpeng.com is that right

There database is down for awhile, they are moving shops. The build number forum may return when there up and running again.

Any Y2Y content is suppoed to be on a sticker on the passenger door frame.
