I am toying w/ the idea of having one installed as my car has begun to feel slow !! :(
May be me, may be the summer heat - who knows.
I need to get to the track and see what's it is doing.
At any rate, would a cam by itself give enough of a performance jump for me to feel it ala SOTP ? ? :p
Thanks !

Unless you have headers, the cam won't really do much, it would be like shoving a bowling ball through a straw:)

Yeah, a lot of it has to do with your other mods. On a heads/cam car with LS6 intake, LT headers and other boltons, it makes a huge difference from stock! :)
If you were to just throw in, lets say a TR224 on an otherwise stock car, you might see a 20-25 HP increase. But add some of those other mods, and hold on tight! :D

I disagree:no:. When you're talking about naturally aspirated engines, the camshaft has probably the biggest effect on the engine's power. With all the same components (heads, pistons, etc.) you still have a lot of options for cams. Maybe the exhaust or the heads would "limit" the potential of a high lift cam, but I still think you would see a significant increase by changing from a stock to a good aftermarket cam. Obviously when you couple mods such as heads & cam together, you'll get more gains, but for 1 single change, I think a camshaft would get you the most for your money (well, for N/A................nitrous is probably the biggest "bang for your buck";)).

I'm not happy with the cam yet, but I think I expected too much :(

I have a pretty much stock 2001 M6, FTRA, K&N, MTI Lid, Borla Y Pipe and Dyno Mouth. I added a TR230 and noticed a substancial increase in performance after the install, plus the ability to rev higher with the better valvetrain!!

I have a pretty big cam, heads and bolt-ons with some nitrous for ugly situations. If you get a fairly big cam you will feel the difference SOTP, even without ported heads. Just remember that airflow is synergestic and the addition of headers, heads with bigger ports and valves and intake stuff will add up more than on a stock car.
