FLFB summer BBQ

The time is here again.....the summer BBQ at my place in Bath.

Not many seem to be stoked on the 23rd. Is the 30th better for people? Sept 6?

Jason: 30th is good for me. If you stick with the 23rd, I will do my best to come down for a couple of hours but would need to be back in Buffalo by 4pm. The car is nearly ready, though I am not sure how confident I will be driving for that distance so soon after getting it all back together. I'd love to drive it down and the 30th is more realistic.

I'm sorry we didn't hook up when you were in Buffalo, I didn't mean to be rude by not calling you back and should have done so.

The 23rd is no good for me, I have a wedding. The 30th I have a race I have to race in so the 6th is the only day for me. I understand if you guys have to do it another day but I would love to attend. sept 6,sept 6, sept 6,...etc........ :-)

Had the Z-28 out tonight. Put ~10 miles on it and I am psyched. Didn't really get into it, but it's night and day. Pulls very, very, very hard :D The brakes and suspension parts work fine, very nice ride, handling, and stopping.

I think there's a Gear Vendors OD in my future though. 3,000rpm is slightly over 60mph with the street tires. I wonder if even with a 6,800rpm redline and the 27" slicks if I will have enough gear to get through the traps? With 10% slip, 6,800rpm would still be a little over 140mph, so I hope it's ok. We're going to put it on the dyno Sunday, so if all goes well, it's a wrap.

I really hope I can make it. I will know this week. The car will be out and I'd love a chance to drive it. Though I may be deaf from an hour on the highway at 3,000rpm! There is a Gear Vendors unit in my future.

Being that we are soooooooooo laid back ( ie lazy!):eek: .......we usually don't know when/what the next event may be!

We do post it on this board, so I am sure you will see it, as it is usually posted about 2 to 3 weeks in advance.

I am kinda nervous about the trip with my new combo. Still have an oil leak that I won't have time to get to and it's pretty LOUD at 70-75mph, and it runs a bit hot, but what the heck! Worst thing is that I need to use that AAA membership.

At this point, I plan on meeting up in Rochester.

What time would everyone be meeting up in Rochester? If the car is figured out I'll be there! I'm working on a hesitation/miss/stumble problem that has me really ticked. I STILL can not find the problem after more than a month! I'm trying to get it ready to take down. We'll see.

And well....we broke the damn thing badly. I will tell you guys about it next weekend. Suffice to say that we thought all we had done was hammer a lifter but after changing lifters (which were hammered) and dropping the oil pan my worst fears were confirmed. The Lt1 block has its limits and I found them. The squeek we were hearing was from were the crank tried to walk out of the block and twisted a couple of caps. funny think was the motor still held oil presure. I am going to pull it out today and look at how bad it really is. The motor wasn't happy with what we tried to do to it. oh well aim for next season :) See you guys next week.

The weather for this saturday is looking good :)

BTW, 132 in the 1/8 is ~167-168mph in the 1/4 :eek: That would probably land an 8.4 sec run in Vince's car if it happened! Nuts....totally nuts :)

Yep the 9.0 pass was about two weeks ago. We suffered allot of wheel spin on that run and lost our round of eliminations to a 8.80 Mustang but all in all it was a good run for us.

On Saturday we put a big tune up in the car for the first time. How quick it could have gone will remain a mystery. The track was really good and some other guys had new bests and records were broken. ARE got it done and ran very well. I think they lost in the finals to very fast Mustang so at least some people had a good day.

I took it apart tonight. The crank suffered badly as well as the block. Going to have to see the experts tomorrow and see if it can be saved. The rest of it except for caps and bearings look not to bad. I have one smoked Oliver billet rod from heat but all in all it could be worse. I guess I'll know more tomorrow. The big question is the crank. I have a backup block machined and ready to go. I even have a couple of spare rods but the crank...well I never kept a spare Callies stelth around and by the time I buy one and prep it? Its not very economical. :)
