joshp14 08-05-2003, 12:21 AM I bought the DRL's from www.webelectricproducts.com and got the GM ram air box brand new from a member of this site. Got the K&N too....pretty pricey though for that filter. I noticed a little performance gain with the ram air...and you can sure hear it hiss or suck the air when you nail it. I love the look of them both, what do you guys think?

bigdreamZ 08-05-2003, 12:27 AM Wow great job on the intake, my lazy ass still hasn't made mine functional yet. I have all the pieces including the same intake as you from a WS6. Did you put any baffles or anything? I am wondering when I do this if I go to wash my car I am going to soak my air filter???
joshp14 08-05-2003, 12:33 AM Thats one thing I'm afraid of...is soaking the filter when washing with a power washer. It will only get wet if you spray directly into the nostrels. I think I'm going to all hand washes now. I'm going to get baffles for it, but they are like $65 each from GM  ...I can wait on those. Bugs get into the filter really easy w/o the baffles...
RS Dragster 08-05-2003, 11:49 AM Looks really good man. I take it LT1's don't come stock with DRLs?

I dont even think the DRL's was an option until 96 or 97.

vandelay101 08-06-2003, 06:38 PM Josh,
I saw the setup on www.webelectricproducts.com awhile ago but haven't heard of anyone using it untill now. I have one question for you. Some of the earlier DRL mods required replacing the stock turn signal flasher relay with a heavy duty digital flasher from autozone for around 10 bucks. Do you have any problem with the turn signals flashing with the webelectric kit, or did you have to replace the flasher.
Thanks,
Robert O.

DRL's weren't available until the '97 model year, and they are standard on all '97+ vehicles.
I like the look of the amber DRLs also.:D
chasmanz28 08-06-2003, 07:34 PM joshp how long did it take you to install the drl, was it easy to install

Yes it was very easy, just kinda time consuming. The part that took the longest was running the wire from one side of the car to the other and then finding a place to give the module power. I have a wire running back to the fusebox...that way they turn on when my car does and I don't have to flip a switch or anything.
All-in-all it took me maybe 1.5 to 2 hours....but I'm a meticulous person and I like to take my time so I don't screw anything up.

Nope...I haven't had any problems with it...it's a great module. Turn signals work just as they are supposed to. You can also choose the option of having a synchronized or non-sychronized mode on this module.
ROADRAGE 08-07-2003, 12:27 AM I am confused, why would you want to install drl's? They have a little knob on the dash to turn on the parking lamps.
My first mod was !drl's
carlos64030 08-07-2003, 02:16 AM Hey ROADRAGE...your car looks good with the shaved door handles! :thumb: Is there a fail-safe mode for getting into your car in case the remotes or the door pop solenoid fails?

My first mod was !drl's
First of all, DRL's don't need a switch...they just come on with the car. Second, parking lights are about 1/3 as bright as the DRL's. Third, you don't have to have the rest of the lights on in order to have the front amber lights on (ie-marker lights, taillights, license plate lights, etc.)
There is 2 bulbs inside the front amber lights. When the DRL's are on, both of them are lit. When you have the parking lights on, only one of them is lit. Thats why the DRL's are so much better, cuz they are brighter, thus making people see you better......plus it looks cooler.
ROADRAGE 08-07-2003, 02:44 AM I know what drl's are, my car was equipped with them. I just don't understand why anyone would spend money or time to add what is basically a brighter side marker light that they can no longer shut off.

Thanks for the compliment. The fail-safe is my skinny ass crawling through the hatch if a fuse blows or the battery dies. All hell is gonna break loose when I get around to shaving the hatch key:D

Wow....I've never actually known of anyone that doesn't like the DRL's on our cars. This is a first.

Yeah, me too. Also, it's illegal in a lot of places to drive around with only your parking lights on.
vandelay101 08-07-2003, 04:37 PM Damn,
DRL's are the coolest thing when they are wired to the amber lights. I think all cars should do this instead of DRL's that power the regular headlights. Older saturns are especially annoying.
I guess it's the matter of personal opinion but I think they look badass and I am going to buy this kit. You can see the amber eyes glowing from a great distance and you want to see what kinda car it is. Corvettes and F-body's started this trend..however now i see buicks and new saturns doing it also. Hands down a great appearance mod!!!

Yes that is very true....I wonder why you can't do that....?
snorkelface 08-08-2003, 12:48 PM Probably because therir intended purpose is to let other drivers know that your vehicle is stationary, and not moving. That's just my thoughts, though.

That's a fairly logical guess.

That's pretty much how it worked...you would see those 2 bright ass amber spots way the hell down the road, and think to yourself "Is that an f-body or a vette..." Then of course you would find out which it was. Now, like vandelay101 said, a lot of other cars are doing it as well. Like the Cadillac CTS is a good example.
It's still pretty easy though to tell the difference between and f-body/vette, and another car. The reasoning is because the DRL's on our cars and vettes sit pretty low to the ground.
jwar19 08-10-2003, 12:40 AM Yeah, isn't that web electric site the greatest? Before I came across that, I read a tutorial online about doing it yourself, changing the relays and what not. I didn't like it because it sounded too complicated and the end result wasn't too good IMO. Then, here came web electric and voila! Here's mine on pickup day back in march: http://www.basicintellects.com/~geo/DSCN0036.JPG

joshp14 08-27-2003, 05:22 PM I installed mine in the bumper. I zip tied it to some other wires, and made sure that the module was aimed down that way no water could get into the module. The plastic peice that screws into the bottom of the bumper and the bottom of the front fender protects water from splashin up there.

Thats why Im doing the install from http://personal.atl.bellsouth.net/b/r/brian411/images/home_made_drl.htm
You have control over them :)
ThotYouKnew 10-02-2003, 09:58 PM ha...i tried using http://personal.atl.bellsouth.net/b...me_made_drl.htm
and messed up...ha i broke like 3 relays...the damn little pins on them dont really wanna pierce those 3 or 4 wires, and on top of that i didnt buy a strong enough flasher...so yea i wasted about $40 in supplies....i finally got the right one to work and it was very bright, but then my blinker wouldnt work becuase i had an aftermarkety flasher module, but not heavy duty enough...so 3 relays on the right thats like $10-$15 and then i figured i would have to spend another $10-$15 on teh left side after breakin more....so i bagged it...ha i think i may go with this kit sometime down the road...i love the look ha i always roll around with my parking lights on...they arent BRIGHT enough tho....well if you are good with wiring go with the install procedure, if not go with the kit i guess...ha
oh and also...i went ot run a ground from the switch so that it would light up blue when turned on...ha started up the car flipped the switch and melted all the wiring..haha SOB...ha o well...
chasmanz28 10-03-2003, 12:32 AM yeah get the kit, so easy to install and the kit was cheap
joshp14 11-19-2003, 12:14 AM If I wanted control over them, I could easily install a switch. I have the power wire running from the DRL module up to the interior fusebox. Or I could just open my door and pull the spade terminal out and voila....not as easy as a switch though.
nice looking T/A!
Thumbs up to web electrics for the DRL's... I did them on my 93 Z28 too. My car looks mean from the front with the billet grille and the DRL's on :D

In synchronized mode, when you turn on your turn signal, the other lamp will turn off. This is suppose to help against people looking at your car at the right time and thinking that you are turning the other direction.
In non-synchronized mode (the way in which the factory modules are), the other DRL stays on when the turn signal is on.
WHITE94Z28 11-20-2003, 11:55 PM That's great. I always liked those lights on the newer models. I just ordered the module from Webelectric.
I wonder how many wires need to be run?
Johnnynsac 11-21-2003, 12:45 AM Man, some of you guys are getting so hyped up on drl's. lol

7 wires total...
power, ground, park lights, LH turn signal wires(2), RH turn signal wires(2)
DRL's are awesome. How many cars do you see that have the low-to-the-ground DRL's? This is how you can see our fellow f-body drivers coming from 1/2 a mile down the road! The only other cars from the factory that have the low DRL's is the vette, 04 Grand Prix, and the CTS....all that I can think of.
What are you talking about Johnny?!?! The instructions say that this is a 15 horse mod?
1994TransAm 11-22-2003, 01:23 PM hey guys, this is me and my old paint job http://www.webelectricproducts.com/products.htm
when i use the clear cornors i have, should i use amber bulbs or hyperwhites ( my car is now white)
ThotYouKnew 06-27-2004, 08:29 PM I went ahead and bought the kit after trying to use the online tutorial/radio shack version last summer and almost setting my car on fire. The kit made the install a joke. The hardest part to everything was gettin the splash guards off the bottom of the engine bay...i highly reccomend the kit...ill have some before and after pics soon...
jwar19 06-27-2004, 09:39 PM holy thread resurrection batman!! hahaha, well I'm glad people are starting to like the kit from webelectric. It's been WAYYY over a year now since I've had my DRL's installed using the kit from webelectric and everything has been "A" OK with no problem at all.
ThotYouKnew 06-27-2004, 11:13 PM quick question....how did you know that i was batman...well maybe im not batman but i still seem to find myself dressin up in tights, a cape, and a mask...hm...guess you have been spying lately....damn peeping tom... :D
but yea on a serious note....the kit is excellent...
"White Knight" 10-21-2004, 12:59 PM I finally know why they are so bright.......I always wanted to make mine brighter...but never knew how. I wouldn't want mine on all the time though...just when i turn the parking lights on or regular lights on. I think i am finally going to do it......how are the factory DRL's wired up? do they have a seperate fuse in the fuse box? I want to make a factory looking set-up :D

RacingTiger04 10-22-2004, 03:06 AM ive got a question about that ram-air. does it get wet if you drive in the rain any? reason i ask is i just got a new ram-air hood for my Z and am thinkin about gettin the airbox to make it functional but it doesnt have the baffles in the hood either... one reason im slow to do it is my car already has a moroso cai on it, if it wasnt for that ilda got the ram-air intake with the hood and worried about rain later lol.

I don't know what kind of hood you have but i have no problems with rain and my ram air. The hoods are made with baffles that keep the water from getting to the engine. I had a K&N CAI that i traded straight up for a ram air setup. People claim you get more power from the CAI but i felt no diff. I think its just a "claim" and nothing more. I personally just like to say i have ram air. There are some pics in my sig.
