Another 3M SMR Question: Cotton vs Foam

I was reading this sites insturctions for the application:

3M Foam Polishing Pad Glaze use By orbital:

Use a 100% cotton bonnet or a foam bonnet and apply the polish in a thin lined
growing circle starting from the center and spacing the growing line about an inch
from the last round all the way to the edge. Place the bonnet flat on a panel and
activate the polisher and begin working the entire panel using light to medium
pressure. When you have worked the panel thoroughly then take a clean towel and
wipe the residue off in a back and forth motion using light pressure. Then simply
move to the next section. When the entire car is done do a Dawn wash and Zaino.

I went to Wal-Mart tonight just to see what I could find, no foam bonnets, but could run to Advance or Auto Zone if need be. I have cotten now.

The oil that the product breaks down into is the black portion right?

Also, are Viking Cotton Apps okay for Zaino?

Thanks!

Cotton or foam will work with a buffer to apply the 3M SMR. I like to use foam personally, since I got my pad kit from Meguiar's. You might check around your area at other parts stores for the foam. NAPA, AutoZone, etc, might carry them, plus you never know what other goodies you might find that you didn't know you could buy locally. :)

Yes, the Viking cotton apps will work OK with Zaino. I have used the Viking cotton and foam apps with Zaino and they both work fine, although the foam app tends to spread the product thinner and more even (probably because it soaks up less polish than a cotton app).

Happy Detailing!
