JasonD 07-31-2003, 09:32 AM Due to MASSIVE demand, it is my pleasure to announce that M8 is definitely going to happen.
October 25, 2003
Stanton, MI
It will be a no frills event:
Party at the hotel
Show up at track
Race/Have a good time
Collect your trophy and prize money (if applicable)
Wait for a few minutes for raffle (if applicable)
Head to park for after event picnic
Head home to warm up
That is what I have found everyone wants and so that is what they will get. A good time, plain and simple.
Dig out your snow pants, M8 is on the way...
robvas 07-31-2003, 09:39 AM How much $$ to race?
Does GM own enough of Subaru to let WRX's run?

Probably $35 like last year to participate, $5 to spectate.
Since I will again offer prize money, I may also offer buybacks for eliminations per people's request.

Not really. It is a GM only event, that means what is considered American GM cars. Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, Oldsmobile, Cadillac, Pontiac, Saturn, etc...
If someone wants to bring a WRX, I don't think people will have much of a problem with it, though. They are kick-ass little cars. E-mail me.

BTW, Jason, do you have any extra CZ28.com National Event Keychain things left? I didnt get one at the track.

The M events are always in October.
M event newbies do not know that.
It is already scheduled at the track.
It cannot be changed now.
Nobody is forcing you to go if it is too cold for you.
Everyone else will be there.

I was gonna post that myself, but I knew someone would follow up with it anyway. ;);)
My original intent was to possibly suggest having this event earlier in the year.
I know, but let me out this into perspective for you...
I know that you know we just had a 2-day event last weekend. It took months of planning, preparation and promotion. Do you know how many cars showed up? 69 (huh-huh-huh). It was not a total disaster and everyone had fun (AFAIK), but it was about a third of what we expected to have there. :( We got stuck with a lot of t-shirts and a pretty good sized bill for the track. :(:( It's just a lot of work to leave us scratching our heads.
Do you know how many cars showed up at M7 (a one-day event) last October? About 125.
At first, I couldn't figure it out why the Nationals event was so barren and the M events are so packed. Then I realized that what it comes down to is that during the summer, there is too many other things to do, people already have plans, are out vacationing on weekends, or are doing other things, etc. So, I don't think Chris and I will do another big event like that, especially in the summer. However, I will stick with what works, and that is me having the M event in October. Many consider it the "last blast"of the year before they put their cars away and since summer is over at that time, people are less occupied with things they need to get done during warmer weather. In October the air is crisp, the track times are great so when people put their cars away for the winter, the most recent thing on their mind is how well their car performed and the great time they had. It works, and everyone loves it.
Sure, it is a little cold and sometimes even bitter but it is only the beginning to a long winter. Wear warm clothes and pack some hot cocoa and you will be fine.
I have never been to an "M event" so, ya, I am a newbie.
Told ya. ;)
I will probably go to this event, regardless of when it is.
And you will probably have a great time. Everyone else does.
I can understand that scheduling track time is probably difficult, and that may or may not have been the only time available.
It is not so much with scheduling (although this year will be about 2 weeks later than usual due to conflictions) but more with sticking with what people expect and what works. If I could do it in September, I probably would but since I can't, I will do the best I can.
I am sorry if you took this the wrong way Jason.
No sweat, I never did. You are not the first person to ask WHY in October. Only the truly M-experienced know the answer...
Jacob, you know what you can do. :D
Careful...you don't want to piss him off. Who will help you work on your car? :):):o;);)

ws6transam 07-31-2003, 09:53 PM Last year, Randy Bell towed my camper up to the event with his new Truck, then entered the eliminations and took second place!
We set up the camper with a couple dozen doughnuts, and simmered a gallon of hot apple cider on the stove inside. It was nice and warm in there, so folks that wanted to warm up could do it.
Maybe there's someone willing to help me bring up the camper this year, too?

99 1LE Hugger SS 08-01-2003, 09:05 AM Since i missed the nats i now have renewed motivation to finish my car. Plus i have placed in in the top 3 in the quick sixteen 3 years in a row and i plan to continue the streak.
Unfortunetly the last time my car ran was at the last M event when i dropped a cylinder in the semi's but i still took third so it was worth it.
I havent met a single person that was ever unhappy about an M event even with the 30 degree weather.
Thanks Jason and Chris for putting this on again this year.

I dunno if you heard or not but my motor is busted and I am not sure if I'll run it again this year. This car should easily be in the 12's with the parts that are on it (the correct parts that are on it  ) But its still in the 13's with the parts that are on it too (the incorrect parts on it.. :( ) Next year she will be pristine motor wise, we're gonna be doing a major overhaul on it again this winter. Make it right this time.
I will be there though. Hell, I might even band aid the problem and run it down the track a few times. Who knows.

obviously you've never been to deer camp :) It'd be surprising if I ever actually make it into the tree. What you described about the track event are basically the same as deer camp. Except our hotel is a tent, our cookout is over a fire, and the party runs the whole weekend.
And new track times = new lies to tell about the deer you missed earlier in the season! :)
Like I said, it's gonna be a tough call. If you're not a hunter, you wouldn't understand. ;)

taner 08-01-2003, 05:56 PM cool this should be fun. only request i have is can the 8 second cars be in an outlaw class??? my 3500# car is no match for an alcohol blown drag car, lmao!!! it got so scared at the lights it broke, lmao!!!!!

I'll do my usual, get their Friday night, drink, go to the track the next day with a hangover, picnic, party and drink at the hotel again, go home the next day with a hang over and good memories.

I'm going to second that request. It should be Quick 16 "street cars". There are plenty of 9 and 10 sec cars that can fill this class. Maybe something can be worked out.
An Outlaw class might even attarct more of the big hitters to the party, which in turn should pull in a crowd. (this is all based on assumptions;) )
I should be able to put down some good times by then. I had fun at the Nats, esp considering that the car was finished just days before. I way prefer the M events though. My car has always run better in the cold. Who cares about a little snow.. See you guys & gals there..
KKoepp31 08-04-2003, 02:00 AM I wouldn't mind bringing the Subaru out if it's allowed. Hopefully I won't step on anyones shoes in doing so and hopefully the car won't disappoint.

CamaroZ28.Com F-Body Drag PC Video Game
CamaroZ28.Com Nationals Event DVD (should be completed around that time)
and...
A NITROUS EXPRESS NITROUS KIT!!
POSSIBLE:
Tazzo VPC
Tazzo EFI
WORKING:
More stuff. :)
Guess what...you MUST be present to win. Discount pre-registration will be available soon.
See you there...
ws6transam 08-08-2003, 03:17 PM Jason,
Here's a sample of the DVD footage for you all to look at. It's 3.7 MB and a pale imitation of the video which is really clean. The REAL DVD will shake your house if you have a subwoofer.
Race 5 of the Quick 16: Dave Katt versus Scott Karesky (http://www.ws6transam.org/video/CZ28_nats_q16_race5.mpg)
We have the whole eliminations on tape (with at least one camera), and nearly all cars will be identified with either audio or captions.
It looks like an hour of video won't be a problem. However, finding time to fix my car between now and then might be a problem...

A Mustang? As much as I wouldn't mind personally, I don't want to get crucified by the attendees.
A WRX or two? Maybe...I dunno... How much of Subaru does GM own?
91 Redd Sledd 08-11-2003, 12:27 PM I believe fuji heavy duty industries owns 51% of Subaru and GM owns 49% at least thats what they told us in school. It is roughly 50% owned by GM.I understand about no Fords,I was just giving you a hard time. This will just finally make me get the Camaro out this year after all.
James
Will their be superballs involved?
KKoepp31 08-11-2003, 07:13 PM Yeah, I know GM has a sizeable share in Fuji Heavy Industries, parent company to Subaru. Heck, you can even get the GM discount on Subarus now.
What's it gonna take to get the WRX out there, an 11 second run? :D

At the event we will be having another raffle to win a complete Nitrous Express nitrous kit among other cool items.
Not to mention one day of AWESOME racing, trophies and cash prizes to the event winners. I don't think I have to mention the hotel room parties the night before...

Make me feel good and start talking about it! :)
Talk about it? Ok.
I tried to make it to M5, but on the way their a brake hose collapsed preventing the right front brake from releasing, so I had to be towed back home.
Made it to M6 in my car, made 2 runs, had serious clutch problems, blew thrid gear out in my tranny, and flattened a cam lobe.
Made it to M7 without my car, it was in the process of being dismantled and parts were just being ordered. Did the hotel partying as usual, had a great time, but wished I had my car thier.
Hoping to make it to M8 in my car. I'll head on up their Friday so I can party hard and so on. I plan on running my car in the bracket race, but I'm gonna be running street tires and going easy on my stock, worn out posi, 3.08 geared POS 10 bolt rear end. Not gonna launch on the 2 step obviously. Doubt I'll go faster then a low 13 since it'll be my first time racing it with this setup, and I'm scared of breaking stuff, so I'm gonna be real nice to it and just try to be consistant. If I loose and my gf makes it further in the brackets then I do, then I have to give her a massage. On the other hand, if I win, I get one! I'll probably get eliminated in the first round, but I'm gonna try anyway.
Jason, at every M event I've made it to, I've recieved a free CZ28.com shirt, don't change traditions man :D
See ya all their!

On another note, I got the cam installed and did some more assembly today. The distributor is rebuilt with BRONZE gear this time, and I think most of the hardened lobe steel has been flushed out of the engine. Geez, don't ever let your cam go flat: The steel gets everywhere, especially if you go more than a few thousand miles. I *hope* the grit didn't end up in the oil galleys, but if the oil filter ended up getting clogged, and allowed stuff to get through via the bypass, well it will be spun bearing city on October 25th....
Time will tell, eh? I'm running the Feeble305 till it blows up!

JasonD 09-29-2003, 03:53 PM In case you missed the other thread about this, I just wanted to inform those who plan to be there (which is probably everyone in this forum  ) that Speed, Style & Sound (http://www.speedstylesound.com) will be covering M8 (http://www.migmevent.com/m8)!
The reporter that will make the event is coincidentally an old acquaintance of mine who I haven't talked to in years. He will plan to bring his 475 horsepower late model Pontiac Grand Prix. Yes, 475 hp out of a FWD Grand Prix. If seeing tha isn't worth the price of admission, I don't know what is. :)
He will also bring a few issues of Speed, Style & Sound to give away. It is a great magazine and if you make the event and are lucky enough, you could make the article!
For those who still need info on this event, head over to http://www.migmevent.com
ALSO, if you haven't already, click THIS LINK (http://web.camaross.com/forums/member2.php?action=addsubscription&threadid=152368) to subscribe to this thread to ensure you get notified of these updates (must be logged into the CamaroZ28.Com message board for this to work).

94_Z28_ragtop 10-02-2003, 12:30 AM Jason - In a quick scan through the 8 pages of this thread I didn't see anybody asking if the track will be selling race gas during M8. I need 100 octane unleaded. Will they be selling it or do I have to find it some place else?
Also, do you get a multi-car discount? ;) You know, 2 cars w/ 1 owner(driver)? I've missed so much racing this year I might bring both cars out.

dreamer1q 10-02-2003, 08:44 AM Also might want to see if some shop will do N2O fills on site. I hearalot of guys will be spraying this year. 97 6SPEED Z 10-06-2003, 02:03 PM Okay, here's a question from an M event "newbie". If I pre-register my car before Oct. 18th and get with the "three(3) pit crew " members get in "free" program; but, my lazy a$$ pit crew wants to sleep in that Saturday morning and leave the Detroit area around 9AM and meet me at the dragstrip JUST for time trials and the bracket racing, (while I, of course, leave at 6AM to be there for Tech at 9AM), can they STILL get in free??? Or do the three "freebies" have to accompany the car and driver up there? In other words, can my "sleepy headed" pit crew members show up three or four hours AFTER I check in and still get in on my pre-registration fee?
TIA to Jason for a reply! :)

I have a solution. I am going to send everyone who pre-registers some wristbands to get into the event without any hassle. The only thing that has to happen is they show the wristband on their wrist, and then sign the waiver, grab a tech card and head on in!
:)
JasonD 10-07-2003, 01:36 PM Originally posted by elderon
Hello. Im a newbie to this also. Can you please explain the events in more detail?
It is a one-day drag racing event for all GM cars. Cash prizes, trophies, raffle, etc. A whole lot of fun! :)
What are the different classes or divisions?
Bracket racing (two classes):
12.50 and slower
12.49 and quicker
And a Quick 16.
I really don't expect to win any events with my car
In bracket racing, it is not so much how fast of a car you have, it is more how good and consistent of a driver you are.
If you are new to bracket racing, try these links:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=Bracket+Racing+Basics&btnG=Google+Search
The M events are the best place to learn how to drag/bracket race because it is a very friendly event and everyone is willing to help out. Many people are newbies at the M events and as a result, go home knowing a lot more than they thought. You WILL enjoy the event!
For this cookout later, is the food supplied or do we bring our own or what?
It is "bring enough for yourself and some extras for others if possible".
See you there!
JasonD 10-07-2003, 02:07 PM EVENT NEWS 10-7-03
Just ordered the trophies. They are going to be a little cooler looking than last year,
New for M8! - CLUB PARTICIPATION AWARD!
There has been so much talk about this event and from what I understand, there will be a few clubs representin' at the event, so I made a special award. The award will go to the acting president of the club that brings the most participating cars to the event. Participating means teching in and racing, not just showing up.
Trust me, this is not so much of a plaque or a trophy, but a nice and unique award. It is pretty cool, and I am very excited about it. You'll see it at the event. :) The award will be given at the awards "ceremony" at the end of the event.
So, club presidents and members...lets see how well your club can pull together for a showing and a racing!
Rain/Snow
Everyone always asks what if it rains or snows. Well, we have been blessed so far with decent weather (for the most part) for the previous events.
With this one being later in the year than normal, we do indeed run a risk of bad weather. If things do get bad, the event will be re-scheduled for possibly the spring. At the very least, we can have a meet and greet somewhere in the area, and that is REALLY what this event has been all about from that start anyway.
In the event of a calcellation, refunds (or partial refunds if the event is cancelled halfway through the day) will indeed be issued, etc. There is no financial risk (except for me;) ) to coming to this event. Many times, it rains everywhere except for that area where the track is. Don't ask me why or how, but others who go there often will attest that I speak the truth. Quite an anomaly but one that seems to work in the favor of those who run at that track.
So, no one has any excuse to NOT showing up!
There is a LOT of buzz going around about this event, seeminly more than the previous years. This one might just be the biggest yet, and the bigger the event turnout, the CASH PAYOUT!
PhantomTA 10-07-2003, 05:59 PM Well since only a few of you know. This year I will be working the gates at M8 :). So if you dont know me, or we havent officially met, then would be a great time to introduce yourself.

Been thinking about this one a lot.
What does everyone else think? This doesn't necessarily open the door for a flood of them, but should we let a Subaru in just for sport? ;);)
Your opinions count!
PhantomTA 10-08-2003, 11:52 AM sure why not..
dreamer1q 10-08-2003, 03:55 PM Tough one, and I have thought about it too. Even as much as I hate most imports, even the fast ones look funny to me, he does have two things going for him. Chevy does own a substantial amount of Subaru, and he is a member of this board. I say let him run, gives me a chance to stomp him;)
Q
CamaroBoy96Z28 10-08-2003, 04:06 PM If its owned by GM, let it run. Subaru, Saab, Opel if the case occured should be allowed. Its a GM event right? Plus its more money that comes in from entrance fees, more people, and more importantly more cars as well as a more diverse group of cars all equals more fun.
JasonD 10-08-2003, 05:33 PM Originally posted by CamaroBoy96Z28

Yes, it is a GM event, and no offense intended at all to anyone but it is for DOMESTIC cars produced by GM, not necessarily produced by subsidiaries of GM. I like the new Subarus, I would love to own one but this isn't meant to be that event.
This is clarified here:
http://www.migmevent.com/m8/contact.shtml
Q: What kind of car can I bring?
A: Any year, make or model of an American General Motors Product. It it was made by GM, you can race it at M8. From Chevettes full-size pickups to full-on race cars, it is a "run whatcha brung" event...and long as it is in a GM vehicle!
I am now going to change that event page to expand on that so there is no confusion.
its more money that comes in from entrance fees, more people, and more importantly more cars as well as a more diverse group of cars all equals more fun.
Yes, that is true. We are always for a bit of diversity. This used to be a Camaro and Firebird EFI event and then it became an all-generation Camaro Firebird event and then an all GM event for diversity, but it can only go so far while sticking with what people like. The money aspect only means something in terms of higher cash payouts. However, this event does not need to get too much bigger than it already is. It would take away from the friendly aspect of this event. The day is busy enough as it is.
I am just asking what you all think about making this ONE exception this ONE time.
I never suggested that we open it up to everything GM has their hands because this is not that kind of event. Sorry!
PhantomTA 10-08-2003, 05:58 PM this one time is fine.. :)

Sorry, only one vote per person. ;);)
And if it is decided this ONE time to let this ONE Subaru in just for variety, it won't be able to compete in the eliminations. It will be there for exibition purposes, just like when one of the event sponsors a couple of years ago wanted to run their Mustang. (Gee....I wonder which one I am referring to? ;);))

KKoepp31 10-08-2003, 08:15 PM Yeah, I don't intend to run in eliminations, I don't want the prize money or anything like that. Just thought it may be fun for you guys to see what some of GM's interests from across the pond can do with a little work. Not every day you see a little Subaru with potential for 11's.
Robvas even hosted a video of a 12.5 run here (http://robvas.dyndns.org:3000/rob/vids/stanton4-13/kevin12s.wmv)
It was the slowest of runs on nitrous that night, having gone 12.1 at 117 the run after that. That was also 40whp ago so the possibilities of an 11 second run at 120 aren't out of the question.
dreamer1q 10-08-2003, 08:28 PM Good idea J....I like that. That gets my vote

My wife had a great idea. I was telling her about the arm bands for pre-registered folks and she said that you could have the left lane for arm bands and the right lane for pay at the gates. Then have the people getting the waviers signed direct people into the correct lane.
This could speed things up immensley.

You'd think so, but then we'd be dedicating the left lane for 13 cars (so far), and the right lane for 100+.

See my previous post.

There is a perk in the discount and free guests.
It would be a total nightmare trying to keep everyone out of one lane that would be empty 90% of the time it would seriously slow down the the "non-prepayment" lane.
JasonD 10-13-2003, 12:39 PM Okay, a few things of impoartance here. The event is less than 2 weeks away, so things are going to come together quickly.
A lot of this is are reminders, but some is new so pay attention!
Pre-registraion will close this Saturday the 18th, and all who pre-registered will receive wristbands in the mail along with entry instructions. I mentioned this before, but just in case anyone missed it.
The mailings will start going out this week, so watch your mailbox if you pre-registered. If you have not pre-registered, you better get with it because there are only a few days left to save on the participant fee plus get up to 3 guests in free. :)
The Subaru issue
The last thing I want is some ricer showing up to bling-bling his way down the track for a blistering 25-second ET. However...
Since we are talking about a very fast little car, and since it is far from a ricer and since it could walk a lot of the cars there, and since no one had an objection to it...
Sure...let's let one Subaru in this one time for exibition runs. See previous posts regarding this if you are lost.
So....KKoepp31, go ahead and pre-register and we'll see you there!
While almost on the same subject...
Almost everyone who has attended the previous events will remember Charlie the Freakshow. He was the big scary-lookin' biker dude that helps me out every year. He will not be doing tech this year as we will be having track personnel do that, but he will be helping out again with just making sure everyone is having a good time. He may also be bringing some is his friends from his motorcycle club to aid in that regard. This is just to ensure that nothing happens to spoil anyone's fun.
Charlie may also bring another friend who is a crazy MF'er who rides a Hayabusa. Charlie said that this guy once passed Charlie on the highway doing a 150 mph wheelie.
So, in return for him helping Charlie out, I might let him run his bike a couple of times, again for exibition only. Should be a cool sight!
Nitrous refills
I am having a VERY hard time getting someone to come out to do nitrous refills. If anyone knwos someone who can do it, please have them contact me ASAP!
Raffle tickets
Do NOT forget about the raffle that will be held at the event. I will be auctioning off some cool stuff including a complete Nitrous Express kit, the usual CamaroZ28.Com goodies, plus I was talking to Greg at Detroit Speedworks and he said he has some stuff for me to raffle off. More may be added in the next couple of weeks so don't forget to buy your tickets at the event. You MUST be present to win. The raffle drawing will be right after the awards at the end of the event so get your tickets and stick around.
Club Participation
As mentioned before, there will be a cool club participation award this year. I have word that the competition regarding this will be fierce. From what I hear on the street, one club will be bringing up to 20 cars alone. If you are a club president or member, make sure your club has a good showing at the this event to win the coveted Michigan GM Event Club Participation Award! ;);)
Dirtiest Car award?
In previous year's M Events, the dirtiest car usually was awarded a Zaino Bros. package. Well, I hate to say it but we gave out all of our Zaino at the National event last summer. However, there will still be an award for the dirtiest car. Just wait until you see the trophy...
Magazine Covereage
As also mentioned before, S3 Magazine will be covering the event. So unless you are a contendor for the Dirtiest car award, you might see yoursalfe in the printed page. See previous post for more on this.
The BIGGEST. The BADDEST. The COLDEST?
From what I can tell, this may be the BIGGEST M Event yet. There is a HUGE buzz about it, definitely more than last year. This means potentially higher cash payouts, which I am sure everyone will be happy to hear. As many of you know this event usually takes place in early October, not late October. I will try to make it a bit earlier for next year, but this year might be pretty damn cold. Be sure to bundle up and bring the hot chocolate and get ready to run your best times all year!
I think that does it for now! If you have any questions, let me know!
KKoepp31 10-14-2003, 10:29 PM So now that I have permission to go, anyone have a helmet I can borrow?

Race gas will be available there for sale.
Listen to track announcements for when they will open up the punps.
JasonD 10-15-2003, 11:11 AM I just wanted everyone to know that there was incorrect information on the event web site as far as what time the event happens.
The gates will open at 10:00 am and test and tune will begine at 11:00 am. This is an hour or two later than normal.
It has now been corrected on the web site.
See the event schedule for additional details:

elderon 10-16-2003, 12:33 PM Hey all. I just wanted to double check on a track rule. Convertible are ok without a cage as long as we are slower than 11.9 correct? Is there a link with track rules somewhere? Thanks

From here:
http://www.nhra.com/contacts/tech_faq.html
When do I need a roll bar or roll cage, and what should it look like?
A roll bar is required in any convertible running 13.99 seconds or quicker in the quarter mile, and in other cars beginning at 11.99. The roll bar is accepted in vehicles running as quick as 10.00 second e.t., provided the stock firewall and floorboard is intact, other than for installation of wheel tubs. The rollbar must be constructed of minimum 1 ¾ inch o.d. x .118 inch wall mild steel tubing, or 1 ¾ x .083 chrome moly tubing,
The track is an NHRA track, so they go by those NHRA rules. However, they have been a little lenient in the past. It will be up to them, but I will assume that with your mods, you might be okay as long as you don't get too close to the 12s. That is just an assumption, again it will be up to the track.

elderon 10-16-2003, 02:00 PM Im sure I would be no better than 13.4 and thats stretching it. If I preregister and they tell me I can't race, will I be able to get my money back? I dont have a cage.

I think you will be okay. I am sorry I can't give you definite answer to that.
Do you have a helmet? If you do, that will probably help out a lot. I think you are supposed to for convertibles anyway, regardless of the times you run.
If I preregister and they tell me I can't race, will I be able to get my money back? I dont have a cage.
If you pre-register and they don't let you even make a pass, yes you will get your money back from me directly.
I don't expect that you will have a problem. They may offer you the option of just slowing down a bit before the traps. I have to do that with people running WAY too fast without the safety requirements, so they just let off at the end of the track. They have slower ET, but still have a decent MPH. :):)
elderon 10-16-2003, 02:14 PM Ok sounds good. Yeah I'm borrowing a helmet from my father. I will be preregistering so count 1 more to that list. :)
limige 10-16-2003, 03:40 PM is there air availible at the track for airing up the slicks? the ones i have loose air rather quickly.
dreamer1q 10-16-2003, 03:41 PM you should be ok, I was there last week running 13.4's and they didnt even blink a eye at me. Get your helmet, and lets go racing.
Q
elderon 10-16-2003, 03:46 PM Excellent then - no worries about it. On the other hand why are you only getting 13 4's with that kind of RWHP. You should be deep into the 12's?

81gutlass 10-17-2003, 12:34 AM Well damn, the last test and tune last year I ran a couple 11.97's and at the ticket booth they asked if I had a rollbar.???? I was like wow someone asked, then after the shock I pointed to it and they didn't say anything after that to me.

Like Jason said, technically the rule is 13.99 or quicker and you need a roll bar in a convertible. But....... Last year at M7 I ran 12.9's in my convertible with no roll bar and nobody said a word to me. That was last year, though.
This year I have a roll bar and should be running much quicker than 12.9's! :D
TAGOES11S 10-17-2003, 04:38 PM I know a few years ago we were allowed to take a passanger on a fun ride down the track. Do you know if we can still do that?
PS The stock M6 tranny held a 1.42 60ft on a 75 shot. Wonder if it will hold with a 150 shot... we'll find out next weekend :D

I don't know for sure. Again, that is up to the track. I think you can as long as on your don't go a certain ET/Speed, but you'd have to ask the day of the event.
I wish I could provide more accurate answers to track policies, but I don't know if they have changed or not and I don't want to give anyone bad information.
JasonD 10-17-2003, 06:22 PM Just a reminder that tomorow, Saturday the 18th is the LAST day you can get a pre-registration in.
To save a few bucks, get up to 3 additional guests in free and speed up entry to the event, go here:
http://www.migmevent.com/m8/preregister.shtml
:)
81gutlass 10-17-2003, 11:35 PM You can have a passenger if you are not faster than 14.00.
JasonD 10-18-2003, 01:37 PM I have all the current pre-registrants wristbands and instructions all set and ready to go out in the mail for the last pickup of the day.
As a sort of bonus, I also threw a couple of free raffle tickets in each envelope. :)
It is not too late to pre-register. I will take the pre-registration page down in a few hours, get in while you can.
There are a few who pre-registered that I have not heard back from regarding how many free guests they will be bringing. As a result, I do not know how many wristabnds to send. If I do not get a reply with this information soon, I will only send one.
Thanks all! E-mail if you have any questions!

Q
81gutlass 10-19-2003, 09:32 PM I was also wondering if there are any rules about runing full exhaust or can you take it loose at the headers?
taner 10-19-2003, 10:08 PM as far as i know, there is one buy back if you get bumped. i don't know if it is for first round losers only? i am sure J will answer that. i would imagine it is.
hell yeah open that exhaust up :)

Right, if you get eliminated in the first round of any class, you can come and see me (I will more than likely be hanging around under my white EZ-UP tent) and pay $10 to get a special sticker to put on your car that allows you another chance in the eliminations.
Buybacks has been requested in previous events so this is the first time we are doing it. As a result, details may change until we get the hang of it, but I doubt it since it is pretty simple.
hell yeah open that exhaust up :)
There are no exhaust restrictions that I can think of.
JasonD 10-20-2003, 01:04 PM Just to let everyone know, the Nitrous Express nitrous kit WILL be available for raffle! Winner will get a certificate to fax to Nitrous Express to claim their prize.
The winner can choose either and EFI kit or a Carb kit!
See my (edited) post a few above this one for details!
So the raffle is DEFINTIELY gonna be a good one! Bring some extra cash and you could walk away with something nice!
TAGOES11S 10-20-2003, 05:10 PM I've heard different things on T-Top cars and Roll bars with new NHRA rules. Can someone clarify if that a t-top car can run slower than 11.99 WITHOUT a roll bar.

limige 10-21-2003, 06:10 PM yeah what if it's raining in the morning, they are saying 30% chance as of now, which my guess means spotted showers.
taner 10-21-2003, 08:20 PM until someone builds and enclosed drag strip, just cross your fingers and say a prayer. hope for the best.... meaning dryness :)
ws6transam 10-21-2003, 11:05 PM Wasn't it M5 where there were snow flurries at the top-end of the track, while we were running our personal bests? I seem to remember something like that. Yes, IIRC, the event stayed dry until it was all over, then it began to snow at the track.
This is one event that requires everyone to be an optimist. You are going for the chance to hang out with folks you rarely meet face to face yet interact with every day. The racing is secondary. That's how I see it anyway.
BTW, I'll be there rain or shine. I spent $$$ to re-do the top end of the Feeble305 for just this event. I am sure there are others who have done the same thing, right Taner?

Yep, I think it happened at M5 and/or M6.

It always looks like crappy weather before the event but we have been lucky 7 times in a row, and we are gonna go for an 8th.

EXACTLY. That is the whole reason this event was started 8 years ago. The first event had around 20-25 cars, the second was done with about a months preparation and got 27. M3 got maybe 40-50 cars. M4 is when it started to get bigger with around 75 cars. M5 had 80 cars. M6 had about 100 or so, and M7 had around 110+ cars. You know what each event had in common? Everyone had fun. I don't recall ever hearing a mojor complaint about an M Event, I am very proud to say. M8 will not be any different!
BTW, I'll be there rain or shine.
That reminds me, I got your voice mail. Sure, bring the camera equipment and we'll get some bonus M8 footage for the Nationals DVD (that is almost done, for those who were wondering).

I tried to e-mail you a few times to find out how many guests you were bringing to I could send out the right number of wristbands but I never heard back from you (and a few others).
No big deal, just go to the gate on Saturday and tell the ticket booth attendants that you pre-registered but you didn't get the wristbands in time. They will need your name and they will give you your wristbands then. Sign the waiver, and go on in!
See you there!

JasonD 10-23-2003, 02:02 PM Another Raffle item...
Courtesy of Quentin representing Michigan Speed (http://www.mighiganspeed.com) (one of the event's supporting clubs), one pair of new O2 simulators!
Thanks, Q!
I MIGHT also get something from Club Conceptz (http://www.clubconceptz.com) to raffle off as well, I have no idea what it might be, I will drop by there tomorrow on the way to the hotel. Don't worry, if I get something it won't be ricey...
;)
JasonD 10-23-2003, 10:22 PM Looking at the forcast, most of them call for a the possibility of a little bit of rain in the early AM, but it is expected to be sunny before noon. Don't let that deter any of you because this is just fine, considering we don't even start running until 11 this year (gates open at 10).
The weather forcast is getting better by the day anyway, so we'll see how much better it is tomorrow morning.
Besides, it doesn't rain at an M Event. Maybe a little snow... ;);)

Everyone, I am heading out to the hotel in a few minutes so I won't be able to post here any again until after the event. Things seem to be all set up, the waether is not looking bad at all and we are all going to have a great time!
See you all there!
