Earlier this year I purchased my 2000 Z28 with 4700 miles on the clock. At that time no problems were apparent with the car. The only thing that was obvious was that the front leather seats were alot lighter than the rear seats. Oh, the interior is tan. Anyway, the dealer sales person offered to have them dyed for me for like $80 dollars. Ummm, no thanks. Over the last 8 months the seats have began to even seem lighter. The back of the seats are tan and the fronts look beige to grey.

My 2000 now has 20,000 miles and I have to get the drivers power window adjusted at a dealer under warranty here soon. I am going to ask them to recover the front seats becuase of defects in workmanship. There is no reason the seats should seem that faded when it had 4700 miles. I am going to take it to a Chevy dealer a friend recommended. The service manager knows him and he is a Camaro buff. I am gonna need to battle on this one or should they fix it under warranty without too much fighting? Thanks

I would assume leather does fade. I mean I think it is possible for UV light to fade leather seats if the are exposed for long periods of time. If that was not the cause then I wonder if the first owner tried some leather cleaner and screwed the seats up

i think your onto something.... sounds like the previous owner put something on the seats he probably shouldnt have. out of all the seats in the car, the top of the rear seatback is in the sun the most. my cloth is a bit faded there. check to see if that area matches the front seats. if it does, i would say sun was the cause, but if its the original color still, im gonna say somebody did a boo-boo on the fronts.

Leather will fade over time. However, dark colors are more subceptable to fading them light colors. But in a 2 year period even if your seats were expossed to constant sun shouldnt fade that much. There are no leather cleaners, only preservers and conditioners, on the market that offer any garuntee as to the results. Chances are who ever had the car before you used some kind of cleaner that was not fully removed from the leather and reacted with the sunlight.
Only saddle soap should be used to clean. But good look trying to get a new seat.
