OK.
Let's say I'd like a head/cam combo that will put down ~420 RWHP, idle like stock, eat not much more gas on the highway than stock, and not spend more than $2500. Can that be done?

I doubt it. You might be able to get the parts for that much and do the work yourself...but even that is pushing it.

I'd say to get that much HP at the wheels you're gonna need a wild cam and that usually doesnt idle like stock. http://web.camaross.com/bb/biggrin.gif

You are looking at:
heads: 2000-2500
long tubes:1000-1200
cam/pushrods: 600
Misc bolt ons: 1000
And it is not going to idle like stock, not even close.
