Sweet, some TNT action before Woodward! I'm going to try and make it. Did you post this over on the Corvette Forum, Great Lakes section? There are usually a bunch of guys over there that would come out to these and get the car count up a bit to help cover the cost.

How many cars do you expect?
Let's keep this thread at the Top, I'll try and make it.

Argh... I need a tranny. I don't think I will have the $595 for a rebuild by then... *sniff* I miss my car. Even though I can still drive it around in 1st and 2nd gear! Anybody have a loaner A4 or $595 I can borrow laying around?

sounds sweet, i've never ran my car before! i went to stanton to check out what the track was like and now i want to run, stanton was too expensive for me at this time..

so here's the question, being last week was the first time at a track can someone tell me what i have to do to my car to make it pass specs at the track so i can run... i know i need a helmet, do i have to relocate batt? weld a loop on?

so far i basically have gears and exhaust, that's about it. i want a baseline before i do the cam swap.

thanks,
mike

Hmmm. Sounds like I might have to attend.:) I'll spread the word over on the Motown Muscle board.:)

A helmet and a driveshaft loop should be all that you need limige. If I remember correctly driveshaft loops are fairly cheap and don't need welding.

I'll definately try and be there if I can get my tranny issues sorted out!

Helmet for 13.99 and under, plus it's a good idea.
Driveshaft loop for 12.99 and under, a good idea if you're not interested in the remote chance of fixing stuff.

Oops, I missed that part where his sig says "waiting to be installed." Either way though, like derty said, a loop is cheap insurance.

thanks, isn't there a minimum distance for the loop from the trans? why doen't the tunnel brace work as a loop, the driveshaft really can't go anywhere right? heck mine is sandwiched above the brace between the floor, a torque arm and a 3" exhaust pipe, where's it gonna go???

anyway, i work at a shop and can get the steel, how thick should i go and what distance from tailshaft?

thanks alot,
mike

Maximum distance is 6" from the forward u-joint, minimum is just behind the u-joint. The loop is intended to keep the drive shaft contained in a small hoop. It is very possible for a driveshaft to cut it's way through the floor pan and injure the driver. It's also very possible that while you are going down the track that your driveshaft breaks, plants itself into the ground and catapults the ass end of your car into the air. With the tunnel brace there, the driveshaft will simply start to tear into other things as well, like your brake and fuel lines.

If you want to ask me where mine went when it broke both times (one front, one rear). I'll be glad to tell you and give you a hard reminder of what an exploding driveshaft sounds like. The kinetic energy was enough to deform a 1/4" thick x 2" wide piece of steel over two inches. That easily would have torn through your torque arm and your floor pan and possibly enough to rip you a new ass. Guys that brake rear u-joints (I have, but my rear loop contained it) often lose their torque arm when the driveshaft decides to smack it when it breaks. It's simple physics, the damn thing is spinning fast and carries a lot of energy with it. Something you don't want to mess with.

The loop has to be 1/4" thick and at least 2" wide. They are about 5"+ in diameter. You can mount it to where the tunnel brace is and replace that piece. A bolt in loop from BMR is only 99 bucks I think.

Derty, good DS loop description. Too bad the "helmet for 13.99 and under" isn't a pricing guide. :D

I'll make it on the 14th

Sounds great, I hope its less packed than a normal test and tune, some of those days are bad. Hopefully my new clutch will work great. Derty I'm glad you talked about the loop, I'm not planning on going 12's, but the idea of being safe really makes me feel good, and that does seem like a must have item.

james are you running your cam with no boost or nitro? any times or dyno numbers?

i'm going to get a baseline before i dump my cam in, just curious what it'll do after its done.
