hp/tq # 85 Trans amTerran2k 07-28-2003, 10:43 PM friend of mine wants an 85 tran-am. whats the hp/tq# on it? also whats the best year 3rd gen trans-am to buy. thank you Black6SpdTA 07-28-2003, 10:59 PM Depends on the motor bro! Check this out: http://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/techdb.shtml I'm not sure year to year, I imagine the newer GTA's? Someone else will chime in soon who knows what they're talking about hopefully. -Rippin Zepher 07-29-2003, 01:26 AM Best year to buy is 89. Get the T/A with the Turbo6 in it and you will be very happy. :) 87DJP2001 07-29-2003, 08:28 AM On a 1985 Firebird TA depending on the engine & tanny go from the LG4 155HP/245TQ to LB9 215HP/275TQ and some between these numbers. The best years would be a 87 & up 350 TPI car. Forget about a Turbo Firebird, to few & costly if available. 82355 07-29-2003, 10:54 AM Go for a 350 TPI Formula, they weigh less than a GTA. Martin robvas 07-30-2003, 08:55 AM The best years are the 87-90 cars. 91-92's aren't bad if you can stand the front ends. No matter what year you get, you can swap the motors, transmissions, interiors, ground effects, so with some parts and a little work you can 'make' anything you want. I didnt think the Tuned Port motors were put in F-Bodies until '86. Correct me if I am wrong. --Dave mikey dragster 07-30-2003, 10:53 PM oh yeah sorry that's my bad an it was 87 was the frist tpi's.and 85 305 4bbl 145hp and 332ftlb torque......... 82355 07-31-2003, 09:58 AM No, 85 was the first year for TPI F bodies, 87 first year for 350 TPI and 305 TPI 5 speeds. Martin mikey dragster 07-31-2003, 01:57 PM ok well every 85 and 86 F-body i've seen was carbed. and they didn't offer the 350tpi with a 5spd. 82355 07-31-2003, 03:12 PM I never said they offered a 350 with a 5 speed. There is no way you haven't seen an '85 or '86 IROC-Z with a 305 TPI, there everywhere. Martin Zepher 07-31-2003, 04:16 PM Come on. Don't post what you think is fact. Find out first and then post. mikey dragster 07-31-2003, 05:35 PM i Have yet to see an 85 or an 86 with a tpi engine. i'm sure there put there just we haven't ran across them yet . Two of my club members have 85 and 86 TPI Trans Am's. One of my friends has an 85 TPI Camaro and an 85 TPI Vette. 82355 08-01-2003, 01:59 PM http://www.thirdgen.org/rides/ Go there and search for '85 and '86 F Bodies and see how many TPI cars you can find.
