Difference between...

I have always kind of wondered why people made a big deal out of the MiniRam and would be willing to spend as much as it is when I always thought it was pretty much the same as the LT1 intake? Maybe somebody could prove me wrong here?? If so, what are the major differences that would make you want to spend that much on MiniRam versus just getting a stock LT1 intake? Thanks.

You mean other than the fact that an LT1 intake won't fit on a Gen 1 small block motor?

Until recently, nobody was converting LT1 intakes to work, and it's a lot more work than most people are willing to do. If you couldn't weld aluminum and weld it well, it was cost prohibitive to convert an LT1 intake. Now John Millican is offering them at prices that make the swap a much more attractive option. Go to www.lt1intake.com for info on his stuff. For the price you can't go wrong... my only reservation is the 500 miles of coolant lines all over the engine bay, but considering the cost difference compared to the miniram, I'm sure most people are willing to deal with it.

So Jim, does this man John modify an lt1 intake to fit , say a set of l98 heads? If you had a set of vortec heads the lt1 intake should just bolt right on, is this right?

L98 heads, yes.
Vortecs, no. He MAY be able to modify them for Vortecs, the only things that "bolt right on" to Vortecs, are special intakes (GMPP, Edelbrock, SDPC are a few companies that offer them).

I was under the impression that a non-modified lt1 intake would bolt on to a set of vortec heads.

It may bolt on (although I don't recall the vortec intakes using the same bolt pattern as LT1 intakes), but you're still going to have issues with a distributer hole, and coolant lines.

I thought the lt1 engine came stock with vortec heads.

Definitely not. LT1's are reverse cooled, vortecs aren't.
