First time at the track! How did I do?

I ran my car for the first time at the track yesterday. It was about 75 or 80 degrees. Here's what my time slip said for my best run:

Reaction- .501

60 FT- 2.105

330 FT- 5.743

1/8 ET- 8.780

1/8 mph- 81.38

1000 ET- 11.227

1000 MPH- 92.59

What do you guys think? The guys at the track said I did really good. Are these good times for my car with the mods I have? I ran with Victor racer tires on the back. My mechanic who put my stall converter in taught me how to launch. We practiced in the parking lot a few times. What can I do to get 7's in the 1/8 mile?

Like My Taillights?

An 1000ft track? Kind of strange, a 1/4 mile is 1320ft. It works out to about a 13.5 in the 1/4. Not bad for your first time. with some practice it'll only get better. Then you'll buy more mods, and then some more mods and then... Its a little addicting...quit now while you still can...

Well id have to say your reaction time was about the best thing in that run....with those mods you should be firmly in the 12's with decent traction...get back to the track and try to get your 60's in the 1.8-1.9 second range and you should be able to get close to 8.0's in the 1/8th and yah 1000ft track is kinda weird but then again ive only been to like 4 local tracks and they are all 1/4 so who knows maybe ohio is weird lol

my LT1 had less mods then that and ran an 8.46 at 82.65  not to worry though, first time i ever took her to the track my first run was 9.22 at 77, then i bested 9.0 at 78, keep in mind this was with the same mods just way way way less practice:D

So are you guys saying my car is slow? I thought the times were good. I guess not :( . This is such a disapointment . So what can I do to get better? Am I doing right to keep my car in drive while I'm running. Should I shift it manualy from 2, 3 to D? By the way I went to Centerville race track in Arkansas.

not slow but your just trapping low for some reason, add some DRs to the mix

So are the times I got slow for street tires? I ran in the street radial class. Are most of you guys running on DRs?

really you want to look at your mph to see how fast/slow your car is...the rest of the stuff should be able to be fixed by driving...now im used to 1/4 mile times but ill translate your 1/8th for you...basically youd trap the 1/4 at like 101mph maybe a shade higher...stock ls1 cars usually trap at 105 depending on the conditions...temp, humidity, elevation...but with the mods listed between your higher then stock verter, headers, and intake you should hit the 1/4 traps at 110mph so your 8th should be about 9mph faster then what it is now maybe more if im not mistaken since most of your mph is picked up in that first 1/8th mile. If im wrong someone else correct me.

Thanks Fyrelance. I just stalled to 2000 RPM then punched it at the 3 yellow light. I'm going to try stalling at a higher RPM next to see if it helps my times.

I'm from Dayton Ohio. My dad stays in Huber Heights. Right now I'm in Arkansas because I'm in the USAF. I went to centerville track in AR.

With 3.73's, good tires, headers, stall converter...your 1/4 mile should be well in to the 12's.

Your 1/8th mile times are lacking-they should be around 8.5 @ 85mph....bone stock....With those mods, you should be even lower.

Maybe you need a dyno run to see if you're making the 300 hp at the weels that you should be (heck, 320 with those headers)

The big wheels/tires you have might be slowing you down a hair. I'd also check your 'custom programming'.

What elevation was this at?

PS, just leave the car in 'D'

Do you guys think I would do better if I had some SFC's and lower control arms with nittos?

You've got other problems you need to fix first.

Yes, try luanching 1000-1100rpm's.

You should be able to run low 8's @ 86 mph, just practice and you'll get better.
