What do you hate the most about your Camaro?

For those of you that have a Camaro what is the thing that you most hate (rattles, performance, paint, fit to finish ect.)? My 96 Z28 was a rattle trap and it wasn't very dependable.

On my 99 Z28..

I wish it had a bigger rear end, like the 8.5" instead of the 7.6", just for a little more piece of mind.

Window motors sound like they are laboring

Interior I can live with, although when the car is very cold, and the heater is very hot, the bessels, knobs, and stuff on the center dash and knobs squeek alot while driving down bumpy roads... It would have been nice if they could cover the exposed screwheads though at least.. I think I blew out one of my rear speakers/knocked it loose, when I play some songs loudly..

My gf always complains about the passanger cat hump.

I like the front looks, but I don't like the overhang.. but not sure how to get best of both worlds..


Besides that, I'm happy with my car.... mods are SFC's, front pads and rotors, exhaust and airlid (my stock one's neck ripped), shifter, 35 mm front roll bar, bilstien hd shocks valved by sam, and my 2nd 10 bolt, now with a T2R (which is awesome).. The suspension mods IMO really made the car fun to drive while still keeping it comfortable..

Probably the hump where the catalytic converters used to be. I'm not in the passenger side that much, but when I am I hate it, and I hate hearing about it from passengers. There's absolutely no excuse for it being there.

I forgot about the cat hump. Thats a good one.

why didn't they get rid of the cat hump in the LS1 cars? there is nothing under there anymore right?

THe auto express down on the power windows doesn't work as good as my Grand Prix, you really have to push it harder and hold it longer. THe power streering also doesn't turn as easy as my GP. pre-2000 streering wheel is better than the 2000-2002

My biggest complaint is that they don't make them anymore:mad:

This list took a while to come up with...

On my '87:

- Van Nuys paint
- Giant b-pillar blind spots
- Fuel pump replacement requires removal of whole rear suspension
- Should've come with sub-frame connectors
- The high-back seats should have the headrest adjustable
- MacPherson front suspension sucks
- No decent manual transmission (fixed in the new cars already)
- No room for a full-size spare
- Back seat is way too small (some compact econoboxes have more room!)
- Seats sometimes rub against the center console
- The seatbelt mechanism where the belt feeds from both the lap and the shoulder seems a little iffy to me.
- Need better heating for the footwells
- Hood is *WAY* too heavy (although they can make up for this by giving me enough performance and reliability to make sure I never need to pull an engine out)

The 4 gen is big car but yet it has a smaller interior than a caviliar, I'd like to see this fixed on the 5th Gen. Cavi/Civic size back seat would be nice.

I took this as a means to discuss things we'd like to see fixed in the next-generation car, should anybody important be listening in on this thread.

When I had a Camaro, this is what I hated the most (ranked from most to least annoying).


The car was just too big. The interior size was fine, but the exterior dimensions were just too large. The doors were so long, that you could barely exit the car in an urban environment.
Engine was difficult to access (under windshield).
General poor engineering - Squeaks and rattles, interior materials, fit and finish, car leaked (didn't even have T-Tops).
Overall reliability was not that great.

1. Cat hump

2. Interior dash panels are terribly designed

3. Panel next to passenger backseat is pulling off a little

4. Car is massive and WAY to heavy

5. Engine under cowl

6. The headlights SUCK

7. Optispark

8. Window motors are slow and I have to push the windows the last 1/4" when they reach the weather stripping because the window motors arent strong enough to do that :rolleyes:

With all that BS going on with my 4th gen, I love it more than anything :) .

One thing I learned from this thread is that I am grateful for my crank-em-downs now.

sh!t im happy with everything except for the rear hatch. when its raining or has been raining and u open the hatch to much water drips off the hatch and into the car and onto the speakers. otherwise im happy with it.:)

My biggest complaint is that I cant see my hood!

I hate parking when theres a wall infront of me and having to guess where the nose of my care is. If I could see it, life would be a whole lot easier.

-Power Window Motors that burtn out on 50% of the F-Cars.
-Weak stock brake rotors.
-My M6 would grind once in a while going into gear with the clutch to the floor.
-The AIR pump made too much noise at start up.
-Poor fitting interior pieces.
-No back lit power window/lock etc buttons.


And I loved the car so much, that I would buy another one today if I could... bring me the same formula with modern quality, styling, performance!!!!

On the 95 Z/28: The T-tops sometimes leak.

On the 67 RS: Its only a 2-bbl. :p

Hmmmm. My Biggest complaint about my Z28? Well, the stock clutches aren't worth a damn when compared to (GASP!!) Ford! My alternator & driver's power window conked out before the 60,000 mile mark. And that long front overhang doesn't mix well with California's notorious "dips".

But if I were to say what I absolutely HATE about my Camaro, that's easy!

THOSE RETARDED AUTOMATIC HEADLIGHTS THAT YOU CAN"T TURN OFF!!!!!!!! Sure, you can take apart the top of your dash and rewire it, but why should I have to? The idiots who dreamed this up obvious didn't consider those of us who have to drive through check points, or gates where you are required to turn off your lights before entering. Common sense would dictate that if these automatic lights turn on when the parking brake is released, it should turn off if the parking brake's reset if there was no way around it. But even better would be having the same consideration that seemingly every other car (even at GM) that has auto-lights has.... a switch to turn off the automatic function! :mad:

Those daytime running lights are a close second, but those are just plain annoying. The automatic headlights that can't be turned off are down right retarded, and the person who mandated it should be taken out and shot!!!

In new GM cars (or at least the 04 Grand Prix) you can turn off the auto headlights

Yes... but they just dont do the job well enough.

Plus there are other buttons that do not have the lights,,, such as ASR , and Fog Lamp switches....

the thing that I hate the most is the thing I love the most. the front GFX on my '92. It's broken (my fault, blind corner on semi-icy road + damn blazer in the middle of it = ditch diving. :mad: )

It hits EVERY curb. It's scratched to hell.

But I love the looks of it. It just makes the front end of the thirdgen what it is.

hatch thing.. suck when you rwashing you car and you dry it all the open the hatch and everything gets wet again

Interior lights.. theres only on and thats in the far back and it isnt even that damn bright.. let alone good enough to shine all the way up to the drivers seat.

the hood thing was a bit annoying but i got over it and am pretty good at knowing where its at..

rear view see ability- cant really see much out of the back window

THere are 3 interior lights on my Camaro SS and the Z28
I had, one in the back and 2 on the rearview mirror. I like having the ones on the mirror

to me the biggest things are:

the cat hump sucks, the gas mileage sucks and i HATE the salad shooters. that is about all.

That's a bit of a problem too. It's not as bad as my Mustang was, but I'd still like to see the next Camaro have at least an 18 gallon tank like the GTO will have.

squeek wise, mine is generally fine but my bros 2000 sSS's rear suspension squeaks a lot.

I just figured out why my left side power window seems so slow. I nearly always lower the windows simulateously - just before removing the T-tops - and the left one takes forever. If I just lower the left side by itself, it works quickly enough.

What we're seeing is some sort of voltage drop when both window motors are deployed simultaneously. Problem? Nah, just a "charming" excentricity.

Ok... I drove the 95 today and have a few more....

it only has one cupholder... :p

and, that annoying rattle in the dash that won't go away! :irk:

Mine's fairly rattle free... I think.

Can't hear any rattles over an open exhaust.

I like the flip-out cupholder. With an M6 the center console one is worthless. Holds a 55 gallon drum of Pepsi, I mean a Big Gulp, just fine.

Piston slap and oil consumption are two annoying, but not horrific, problems. Cat hump sucks - I've thought serously about pounding it out.

The Hurst shifter BLOWS. So do the clutch hydraulics. I experienced great joy when ripping both out.

I can forgive the 10-bolt, but I can't forgive the fact that it was not an 8.5" 10-bolt.

That's about it.

Without reading other posts (I'm sure these are common)...

Lowlights from my '93 Formula ownership experience:
-optispark
-excessively long plastic nose
-engine half-hidden
-huge dash
-hatch rattle
-bulbs always going out
-cheap center console
-wheel design
-stock 235 tires
-poor gearing and 115mph speedo

oh yeah:
-huge doors

Just so it's not all bad news, I did like:
-LT1 power
-6-way adjustable seat
-smooth, though long shifts
-exhaust note

I didn't have nearly as many complaints until I got a CTS, but just the same stuff as everybody else. The ride, compared to a modern chassis, is horrific. Oh and also the hump...CTS has TRUE DUALS that run down the driveshaft tunnel like C5, w/ LS1 style pup cats. F5 MUST follow suit and rid the car of that passenger side exhuast routing. Other than that, I really feel that a modern platformed F5 will address most if not all of the mentioned complaints. I simply cannot describe how great feeling this new car is. I can assure all of you that all of your concerns about ride, rattles, and stiffness will be addressed w/ a modern chassis. My main concern is that GM doesn't go cheap on the interior plastics and the leather.

I felt the same way after the puchase of the new Monte SS!

This is why I stand by my statement that there is nothign wrong with the current F-Body Formula. It just needs to be brought forward two decades in support, quality, design and engineering.
