How much does 60' or spinning in general affect MPH? Of course it has a large part on ET but I always thought you trapped higher if you spin....

That has got to be one of the biggest misconceptions in drag racing. I know there are certain cases where spinning has yielded higher trap speeds, but it is a rarity in the real world.

I have consistently trapped 1-2 mph higher running on ET Streets (13-14 PSI) than on street tires.

Cutting a better 60' means you are leaving harder and in turn accelerating faster - somewhat of a slingshot effect.

People will argue that spinning allots you more time to accelerate because your ET will be slower - that is NOT true IMO...the distance being covered is the same regardless of how much you spin or hook, but hooking makes the car accelerate harder/faster, increasing your speed through the traps.

This will be a lengthy debate - but from my personaly experience, as well as many of my friends' experiences, hooking increases mph.

97bowtie, what your saying totally makes sense to me...If you spin all the way through the 60 foot mark going say 20 mph, you could be going 25-30 if you werent spinning.

Anyone else with a different arguement or other experience?

I'm going w/ bowtie. I noticed the same thing w/ both my timeslips and timeslips of other people at the track.

A lot of people will argue this and just wont give up. But it has always been my finding that if I spin... my MPH is off. If I hook, the MPH is ALWAYS higher. I'm with these guys on this one too.

Hopefully I'll be able to prove this theory when I run at the cz28 nationals next weekend. 112.5 on dr's spinning like crazy and hopefully a little higher on the et streets (although it's not a direct comparison since my tranny was acting up last time out) but close enough.
