let me get this straight once and for all. do the newer LS1s emission tests use sniffers or just plug into the computer? i've heard a lot of "talk" from friends about my car passing a test without the inspectors using sniffers, but none that i'd bet the cost of a fine on. the reason i ask is i'm considering long tubes for the future and am wondering if i will be able to run them with o2 simulators and pass an emissions test, as the laws are becoming more and more widespread (even walton county has to pass now). any info would be appreciated.

OBDII metro atlanta just checks by sticking a reader into the dash plug, no sniffer.

If your car is OBDII (all LS1's are), then the metro Atlanta test is a simple diagnostic plug. They only put the sniffer to OBDII cars that fail the computer check (error codes, etc.). Just make sure your car is free of trouble codes, and you'll have no problem. When I had mine tested, they plugged in the computer, checked the gas cap for sealing pressure, took my $25, and sent me on my way.... whole process probably took 8-10 minutes.
