kmook 07-17-2003, 12:47 PM Does anyone know of a company that sells 93-97 Raised SS Hoods, that have are like 3-4" high?
I found a link to one company but they only have them for 98+.
Also does anyone have a pic of the hood actually on a car?
Thanks!
Cbra Kilr 07-17-2003, 12:58 PM i dont know much, but try looking at the z-roc hoods
LJ93Z28GM 07-17-2003, 01:55 PM There is a company called VFN I believe it is a local area to me. I am from the chicago land area. I know they made a taller WS6 hood and were in the works to make a taller SS hood. I have seen pictures but I am just not positive if it was them who made it or not.
I can get a number if need be, email me
ibanez6rg 07-17-2003, 02:20 PM The Z-Roc hood isn't really like an SS. They're a lot different if you look at the two. Mine is a 3" cowl induction :)
kmook 07-17-2003, 02:27 PM Yeh im looking for a SS raised hood, a little difrent.
I talked to VFS and they said that they are making one but it wont be out for a few months. Anyone else know of one?
LJ93Z28GM 07-17-2003, 04:29 PM VFN or VFS. Is that just a typo on your end?
Besides them I have not heard of anyone making one or in the process.
asianice25 07-17-2003, 04:42 PM kmook, who sells the raised ss hood for 98+ cars?
98 PURPLEHAZE 07-17-2003, 05:30 PM kmook- the raised ss hood is from vfnfiberglass.com ... that is what i am going to get it looks sick...try a search here or at ls1.com some dde hasit on his car:bow:
kmook 07-17-2003, 07:02 PM Argh, i know VFN has them for LS1s :) I am wanting one for 93-97 LT1s....
ibanez6rg 07-17-2003, 07:17 PM Kenny, now you calm down. We'll find a solution to this! :D :D
Pandamonkey 07-17-2003, 07:24 PM I've seen the stinger hoods get pretty large, but never a SS hood.
PurplePonyEatr 07-17-2003, 08:27 PM I've been looking for quite some time, and I can't find anyone who makes the 3" SS hoods. VFN is the only place that I can find and they don't have one for our cars. But if you find one, let me know!!
fastcamz28 07-18-2003, 12:10 PM Try www.usbody.com. They have a fiberglass SS hood for 93-97 Camaros that has 2.5 inch clearance which is 1.35 inches taller than the factory SS hood and has a larger front opening. Cost is $649. Hope this helps:)

That's where I bought my hood from, even if it's not out yet they'll make one for you. They do pretty much anything you want, for a price of course. I've been very happy with their customer service and my hood.
Antz97ZNJ 07-19-2003, 04:28 PM Ive yet to see one
JWINN 07-19-2003, 11:50 PM KMOOK,
I just was looking at a picture of I think it was Dave Deluc car(Sled28)? He has a picture of a raised SS hood on his LT1 Camaro:
www.landrocket.com/sled/SLED28/car2
You can see some what of the hood. If my memories serves me correct I remember him mentioning it was a very limited production or ever one off?
Hope this help,
Jim
kmook 07-20-2003, 12:02 AM Thanks Jim, ill look into that more.
Oh and i called VFN again and asked about a custom hood. They are on crack :irk:
They said they'll put a raised ss scoop from an ls1 setup on a lt1 hood, but that it will still have the stock slits on the lt1 hood and that the scoop would be covering part of the slits WTF that would be insanely dumb. I said "well cant you just fiberglass the slits and then put the scoop on"? "no we cant do that".
And they wont sell the raised hood seperately in fear of someone copying it, so i cant even do it myself. ARGH
Z95m6 07-20-2003, 01:00 AM i think rksport sells a bigger SS hood it is called the big block hood. It isn't the one the iroc one either some companies call that a big block too. It looks just like a larger SS hood i believe it is wider and taller than a stock SS.
kmook 07-20-2003, 01:05 AM Hmm ill have to call them and see how high it is... the picture doesnt make it look very tall-

the big block is only wider maybe like 1/2 taller not a big diff....why dont u just let them fiberglass the 98+ taller scoop on an then fiberglass the older 97 scoops up yourself? glassing is easy

I dont get ya, can you restate what you mean?

Oh i get what you mean now. I guess that is an option. I ruled it out since the scoop covers part of the slits but i guess you could just fill in the parts of the slits that are exposed... Didnt think of it that way but i guess it could work.
JWINN 07-20-2003, 10:28 PM I just remembered another place that offers very good quality light weight fiberglass and they also have SS hoods for the LT1 without the hood slits. They may also be able to streach the hood. Here's the link: www.glasstek.com
I have been meaning to call them my self to find out if they will streach the hood and how much they can go? If you call them and they will streach the hood please post what they said.
Thanks,
kmook 07-20-2003, 10:32 PM Yeh ill call them tomorrow, thanks for the link.
When you say strech, are you refering to a longer hood to compensate for no wipers/shroud or streched higher scoop?
AW/whiteZ-28 07-20-2003, 11:36 PM Why not just get a SS hood and take it to a body shop and tell them to make it a couple inches higher?
BIGKerneL44 07-20-2003, 11:52 PM thats what i was thinkin just buy an SS hood tell the shop to cut the scoop an glass it up higher
fastcamz28 07-21-2003, 10:59 AM KMOOK,
Did you check www.usbody.com? If so, what did you think? Their SS hood is 2.5 inches tall (1.35 inches over OEM).
Thanks!

Hmm i guess 2.5" would be ok, i was wanting 3-3.5" but i think 2.5 would be enough.
I also liked the idea of gaining a lot of room by removing the wipers/shroud and using a longer hood like VFN has, but it seems like they arent cooperating. If i can get VFN to make me a longer 3" hood ill definately go that route if not ill probably use Usbody.
JWINN 07-21-2003, 11:38 AM I was speaking to my chassis builder and he said talk to the hood company because in some hoods the company can actually streach the scoop to make it higher. Say going from 2" to 4".
I know what your talking about when it comes to VFN I spoke them a few months ago. They will do just about anything but for a small fee! LOL! Ya right!
I have a coul hood that is both streached to the windshield and streached height of the coul. My chassis builder did the work him self. My hood is very simaliar to a prostock truck hoods.
Maybe a chassis company could streach a hood you purchase but then again in the long run you end up having a ton of money in a hood.
Good Luck,
Jim
rlax31 07-21-2003, 12:53 PM anyone know where there are pictures of that USBody hood on a car?
