tuning for the track tomorrow....need help

I use tunercat so using terminology and tables associated with that package helps most, but no constructive help will be turned down.

K....since I seem to be doing everyone elses tweaks lately, I decided it was time to crack my program open for the first time in over 6 months. I ran three diacom captures (first since I got it programmed by PCMforless mid-2002).

I have not done any engine tuning (on my car) since I got this latest program from brian. I have done a lot of tranny work and adjusted the idle.

What I noticed first (on the program) is there is very little tuning for WOT. The VE tables are stock. Seems most of the tuning is low-rpm and idle stuff that helps driveability and idle-quality. That's good, but diacom reveals my car is fat as a pig at WOT. O2 values are hovering between 920 and 950mV.

So....I am asking for some help since I seem to be starting from scratch on this program for WOT improvements. I know a bunch of stuff I could try, but since I will have no time between now and Friday night (at the track) to run diacom and confirm my changes...I'm hoping someone here can help me out. What are the best practices for a hot-cam/bolt-on car....?

I have stock heads/short-block, LT4-hot cam, 1.6 rockers, stock TB, 1 3/4 SLP headers, cutout, stock inj, AFPR (44psi) and some other stuff that has no bearing on this specific discussion.

Before the HOT cam I had a tune from Dave at Mustgofaster that actually had my O2s in the 880s to 890s and the car ran well after I made some small tweaks. I've opened up the exhaust considerably and done th HOT cam since so I'm quite certain that file will no longer work for me.

You all give it a think and let me know what you come up with.

All help is greatly appreciated.

Hmmm,

We cannot tune our cars in PE mode using our 02's. They just are not accurate. What is 890mv? what AFR is that? I promise you my AFR at 890mv will be different than yours so there is no comparison.

I assume you are MAF, if so, VE tables are only for backup in case of MAF failure.

As for WOT tuning, the best thing to do is to tune with a wideband. However, if not available, take a look at a post Dan K and I had regarding this issue http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=143169

Bottom line, what do you want to accomplish at the track? I will for Solo II put my WOT enable at like 20% TPS so I will almost alway be in PE mode, but that is just me.

hmm... i have a program from pcmforless and there is actually quite a bit of added timing at WOT compared to other files ive looked at. also, most of his tunes are basically the same file so yours should have around 36*- 38* total advance which IMO is a lot when most cars only run around 34* in the same range.

his VE was also not stock on any of the files i looked at.

you are correct that there are some timing and VE table adjustments.....though nothing major. I'm not saying th e programming is bad, but it's generic. My car is traditionally rich and I'd like to try getting a bit more out of it by programming for my specific combo based on diacom/track testing.
