I just got done painting my calipers and i'm really satisfied. I did lots of searches and found tons of instructions on how to do it, but when i went to paint them with my dad he came up with an ingenious idea IMO that i had never heard of. We were thinking of how to cover the rotors to keep paint off of them and he suggested using a plastic grocery bag. The bag worked great. It slips right over the rotor and can be pushed underneath the caliper because its so thin. There are some areas at the rear of the calipers where the rotors show through that will need to be taped up, but this idea worked great for me. Obviously this is for those of you planning on leaving the calipers on the car while you paint. You can see pics of this idea on my website in my sig. I took mine off and I don't understand why you wouldn't. You don't have to cover the entire car and everything around it... Just clamp the brake line with a little c-clamp so you don't get fluid all over the place. Then blead them when you put em back on. It is a good idea to replace the brake fluid every once in a while anyway.

I agree that it's much easier/less harmful to just take them off. Plus if you take them off you might be tempted to sand them down and polish them :) All you gotta do afterthat is slap a hi-temp coat of clear on them :)
For those who are a little more advanced and have the time taking them off would be the thing to do. I didn't do it because i don't have a torque wrench to properly torque the calipers back on and to tell you the truth i wouldn't trust myself taking them off and puting them back on. I'd be to worried i'd screw them up. Also i don't have to much time on my hands these days so i was lucky to get them done in time.
My purpose was to give a tip to those who were going to do it the way i did anyways so no biggie.

No offense... Just offering another option. Also I have found Tech tight works pretty well for most fasteners. In the case of the caliper bolts, I torqued them to as much as I could with my rachet. It should take less time to take them off then to cover everything up and it is really isn't very difficult.

none taken. i was under the impression that taking them off would extend the project atleast another day according to the guide i was reading. guess it depends on how much experience you have with things like that.

We didn't remove the calipers completely on mine so the system didn't need bleeding. We covered the entire car with plastic to protect from any overspray, unmounted the brakes and set them on cement blocks. The cleaning and prepping took the most time. Applying the primer, base coat, decals and finally clear coat was relatively quick and esay.
