StylezZ28 07-13-2003, 07:33 PM welp for graduation i told my parents instead of money i wanted headers + exhaust and the y pipe. I gave my dad a online company that seemed to have the best prices and so on. Well it turns out he bought me SLP Longtubes and SLP Loudmouth when i recommended QTP headers and Borla Catback... How bad are these together? I have heard its ungodly loud which doesn't bother me really. BUt how bad is the hanging on the headers? I don't plan on lowering my car until warrenty is up but i eventually want to. I just wanna hear about ur experiences with either of these 2 products or both together! Thanks!
edg1957 07-13-2003, 08:16 PM I have heard a LM with headers, and it is really loud! If it was me I would have a shop put a bullet muffler on the LM pipes with the headers. Takes the edge off the raspiness!
Ed
JS99Z 07-13-2003, 09:03 PM If you get the hi flow cats like I did it won't be as raspy as the off road pipe. Mines not that loud if I'm cruising around, but when I get on it look out!
StylezZ28 07-13-2003, 10:39 PM doesn't the slp off road pipe come with high flows or am i mistaken?
JS99Z 07-13-2003, 10:50 PM The headers come with a y-pipe. The cats are extra. You can use the y-pipe and just weld in 2 pipes instead of buying cats. Then you would have an off road pipe.
mr_muff 07-14-2003, 02:31 AM from what i have read they do hang low and you will probably smack them around. and yes it is pretty loud. probably the loudest f-body i have ever heard had lt's, no cats, and a LM. too loud IMO, and i personally think it sounds like crap. but thats just my opinion, im sure there are a lot of people that like it.
StylezZ28 07-14-2003, 08:16 AM is the hanging low a real problem for a unlowered car? Do u know if maybe then "fixed" this problem and changed them recently?
chevy qc 07-14-2003, 08:51 AM i recently performed this swap for our sales manager and the hanging low wasn't a problem. only problem we had was how fast we could get that damn loudmouth off there. even with a dynomouth conversion it still wasn't quiet enough. it now has corsa with the long tubes.
CamaroGuy22 07-14-2003, 05:46 PM So how in the world did you end up with those vehicles just graduating high school?
StylezZ28 07-14-2003, 06:30 PM - SS Nova was my graduating project that my dad and i built.
- Z24 Cavalier Turbocharged project is my beater car for driving back and forth to school.
- TA was my first car in which i pay monthly payments on.
KamaroL98 07-14-2003, 07:01 PM Loud Mouth + Headers = AWSOME!!!!!
Infact, i like it so much this is what i am doing to my car.....
And i have heard two LS1 cars with headers, No cats, and the Loud Mouth and it sounds VERY good.... Infact, im going to put a set of headers on my car tomorrow.... The only people who think its to looud are usually older people who want quiet cars to begin with.... One of the guys i mentioned whos car i heard was an older guy and wanted to make it quiet so got the bullett muffler to do the dynomouth thing or whatever... And that sounded god-awful. It sounded real high pitched, like a sports bike sorta.
StylezZ28 07-14-2003, 08:29 PM well either way thats the set up i got and its going on. I just wanted some opinions ;) Anyone else got more? I like the loudmouth w/o headers but i have never heard a soundclip with headers. Anyone got one? Also i will have dual cats. I don't like runnin no cats.
chevy qc 07-14-2003, 11:50 PM if loud doesn't bother you it's not a bad set up. i probably wouldn't pick it for a ride of mine, but i wouldn't change it just because. as long as the cops don't bother you, it will likely sound as you want it too.
mr_muff 07-14-2003, 11:55 PM man i think it sounds ugly. sounds like a hole in the muffler on an old pos car. i don't mind loud (i am not old, 20) but i don't think that lt's and lm is a good loud sound. but thats my opinion. i want my car to be loud, but i still have not found the right sounding exhaust that is not like 1000 bucks for a friggin cat back. :(

u talkin about borla, corsa and GmmG? LOL ;)
mr_muff 07-15-2003, 12:13 AM yes, i can't seem to see why it cost so much. they are more than a set of qtp stainless headers, and i am sure they cost more to make than the catback.

I know its all personal preference, but I agree 100%.
Loudmouth with headers(and no cats) is the worst sounding exhaust set-up I've ever heard(as well as the Borla) on the LS1. Horribly raspy, high-pitched, and very unrefined IMO. It's not the loud part that bothered me('cause it don't lack volume :D ), but it just sounded like utter crap as a muscle car. An open cutout is also no different...
The GMMG with cats or a "true dual" without 'em are my favorite sounding set-ups for this motor.

Man, what are you talking about.... The ones i have heard have sounded like TIGERS roaring is the best way i can describe it.... And what does sounding 'raspy' mean?
mr_muff 07-15-2003, 12:35 AM raspy means its raspy, dunno how to explain the sound. i would have to hear it and point it out for ya.
2000ls1z28: i agree with you 100% on that as well.
i think you guys just say you like the lt's + lm combo just because it is loud and have not heard a lot of nice sounding exhaust. i have never hear anyone say that is into cars say they like lt's and lm. most people say what 2000LS1Z28 says. once again that is just some people's opnion.
KamaroL98 07-15-2003, 12:55 AM I have heard MANY exhausts on LS1s, there are about 75 LS1s in our Fbody club (scfyb.com). And ive heard lots of different combos, ive had 3 different catbacks on my car. I cant really say what i like best. But so far loud mouth sounds beter on my car and i really liked it on cars with headers... Thats the one sound that caught my attention... And i heard the Borla, Corsa, flowmaster, hooker, true duals..... The only one i like as much as loud mouth is the GMMG, but i cant pay that much for a catback, its like $750 for that exhaust, its crazy.
mr_muff 07-15-2003, 02:08 AM gmmg is way to much for what it is. its not our fault they don't sell lots so they have to jack the prices up. bastards :(
