exhaust question

alright, so the past couple of days i've been visiting a friend in college station that has an ss. we have basically an identical exhaust set-up, and we notice that his car is a WHOLE lot louder than mine, and that kind of baffled me plus the fact that i've felt that my car has been holding back on me lately. so i was driving back to austin today, thinking about this problem most of the way home (the rest of the time i was trying to figure out why the hell there were so many attractive women on the road today... it was a good day to be driving). anyways, on one of the back roads to get back to my house, i had an itch to punch the pedal. and when i'm laying into it in second gear, the exhaust all of a sudden really opens up with a pop and then the car feels great... really responsive with a lot of grunt. i guess she just decided to fix herself (which is fine with me, it saves me money.. no complaints). so i'm lead to believe that there was something in the pipes that was restricting the exhaust flow. does anyone have the slightest idea what it might have been in the pipes? do you see this very often? anyways, i'm happy
reid

It could've been something in the cats. I know that when I had the Mac cats on my '98 T/A a LONG time ago that the material inside started to come apart on me and actually clogged the cat. Mac cats aren't known for their flow anyways. They've been proven to flow 10 cfm WORSE than the stock cats!

Yeah, before I even read the replies, I was going to say that you probably had a clogged cat.

(and there's nothing worse than a clogged up cat, especially at 3:00 AM when he decides to unclog himself in your bed) http://web.camaross.com/bb/biggrin.gif

ok, so the only soluttion is to get in there and tear the crap out?.... or to get new cats i guess...? and if i gut my cats while i'm in there, is there any way to pass inspection when it comes around?

It will pass inspection if you gut the cats so long as they only do a visual and not a sniffer test. If they put a sniffer up the tailpipe, then you'll fail miserably.

By the looks from yall being from Texas, you
should have to worry about them doing a sniffer test. Where I live, as long as I can push it in the garage, they will pass me. Well not anymore, Oklahoma doesn't have inspection stickers.

Oh yeah like I was saying. You have to find the right place. Usually performance exhaust shops. Give them an extra 10 bucks and there will be no questions asked. You didnt' hear that from me though.
