I was told by the dealer, that I dont have to do any maintenance under the hood of my car, or at all, until I hit 5,000 miles - in which case I take it in, get the oil changed, tires rotated, and they check their stuff....
Do I have 'starter oil' or something, or is there an early period I have to get it changed, or whatnot?
I trust you guys more than the dealership, sadly =P

I would recommend changing the oil at 500 miles. With a new engine, you're going to initially have quite a bit of wear-in that will produce a lot of metal shavings. You're also going to have some leaching of bonding agents (i.e. silicone) for the first few thousand miles. I changed my oil at 500 miles and again at 3,000. I changed over to synthetic at 5,500 miles.

I agree. Change the oil now. Flush out any leftover debris from the initial breakin process.

My New baby just got her first oil change last weekend @ 672miles. Used Castrol GTX 10-30w and a bosch filter. I figure I'll change it again around 1500-2000 and then switch to the usual routine schedule.
I usually use Mobile 1 but since they changed the formula I'm not so Sure I'm going to use it any more. I'm thinking of switching to Redline every 5K. I'll probably still use a mobile 1 filter though.
