3rd gen ECM probs....

well, as some of ya'll may know, i have had a recent problem with the infamous code 43. i looked at a few things in my car, which has been converted to speed density and my knock sensor was thought to be the culprit. so i replaced it today (albeit in the wrong side of the block. my old one seized, so i removed the coolant plug in the other side of the block and put the sensor in there!) and now the light STAYS on. another reason i have to believe my ecm is fried is because it WILL NOT talk to scanners. the paper clip trick is the only way to get codes. any thoughts on either problem guys? i need to resolve both of these soon. i have a lead on a used 730 ecm, so i need opinions quickly before i go and buy it...

thanks in advance!
Josh

p.s.-seeing as i only have really one wire (knock sensor wire) for my ESC system (i know a LOT more are around but with no module the KS wire is the main one) is there any SURE FIRE way to test this wire and know if my ECM is bad? is there any CERTAIN test to see if my ECM is bad any other way? thanks!!

Hope you did not get that Knock sensor from your local Auto Parts Store. Those suck, mine did not work until I purchased a genuine AC delco version.

Check if your knock sensor is grounded properly, its source from ground is the block itself. Do not use to much TEFLON on it, it should already come with enough on it.

Mine is 1993 Lt1, but the ECM are very similar.

thanks a lot! i moved the sensor to the other side of the block due to the old one being seized in the block, will this hurt anything? i did use a lot of teflon so i will take it out and remove the teflon. is there anyway to test voltage/output from the KS wire or anywhere else to tell me if my ECM is fried? the car WILL NOT talk to scanners either...they always say "Vehicle is not responding" so this leads me to believe that my ECM has taken a crap...any sure-fire way to tell?

thanks for any input in advance!
Josh

I do not know of any surefire way of telling you if your ECM is fried, but as for the other matter, the knock sensor will not supply the ECM with voltage rather with resistance (certain # of ohms) if I am not mistaken.

Good Luck

well, i got one more question then. BTW, thanks for taking the time to AT LEAST look at the question and try to give me some feedback, other forums haven't even done that. is there a wire or wires coming off the ECM i need to check to tell me if my ESC is even working from there? seeing as my module is built into my ECM? if so, which wires and what do i need to check for?

thanks in advance!
Josh
