can't get Belkin F5U103 to work

I have a amk cable and i tested it out on my desktop and it passed fine. I have a newer sony vaio laptop without a serial port, so I bought the Belkin F5U103 and still am having problems getting it to work. When I run the aldl test the lights on the belkin flash but it still fails the test. I am using com4 haven't had much luck setting it to another com. When I run the aldl test the far left two green lights flash and when I try to test it in hyperterminal the lights flash when I type but I get some crazy characters on the screen...I'm not sure I setup hyperterminal right though.

Can anyone help me get this thing going, the laptop also has a amd athalon processor if that makes a difference.

Are you guys running winxp? I just got a brand new dell inspiron 1100 specifically for working on my lt1, and can't get it to work, and can't download the program. So far my hyperterminal works, but i cant test my aldl just yet.

I tried a manhattan adapter, didn't work, so now i have a belkin f5u409. i can get the computer to communicate w/ the pcm, but it's nothing but garbage, it won't "link up" w/ the pcm although there is data going back and forth, watching comm log while trying to connect.

ps, i have the communication log if any serial tekkies read this and am curious, i would appreciate any help.

i think it has to be on COM1

I am having the some of the same problems as hotwire.I have the DELL inspiron 1100, free scan will work but when i try to down load the program from my car with PMC prog it will start and go for about 8% then it will say that it has lost conection and lock up. troy

I have the f5u09 from belkin and it works with efilive...
