Mikie 05-23-2002, 08:39 PM Guys,
I was vaccuming my car today and when I picked up the driver side floor mat there was a 12" diameter soaked spot.
I took the shop vac and pulled the carpet back, sucked up an inch or so of water and about cried!
I have T-tops , but show no signs of leaking.
A buddy came by and said that it could be my front cowl and windshield molding leaking.
Has anybody experienced this????
Also to add... no its not anti-freeze or on the passenger side.
I have an extended Warranty , but I have to pay a 50 dollar deductable and miss work to take the damn thing down to the dealer.
If anyone has experienced this please give me some ideas.
Thanks
Mike

blue98SS 05-23-2002, 09:16 PM under each floor board is a rubber gromet. My rear passenger side leaked and i had water in my back floor board. Just lay under the door and pull it out, then silicone around it and put it back in. That worked for me. What happened was water got around the lip of the gromet and the carpet pad just soaked up what it could.

2000BlkTA 05-24-2002, 09:40 AM Not sure if this is your problem or not but a few years ago I had a similar problem with a '95 Z28 that I bought used (9 months old and 9500 miles).
Same as you I was vacuuming it and and lifted the mats and sqishhhh.... the floor was soaked. Maybe a 1/4" of water sitting on the floor. As it turns out, the previous owner had an alarm system installed and the installer pushed out the grommet in the firewall that sits just above the drivers side inner wheel well. The wheel well has the perfect contour to line up with that grommet if it's been removed and will flood the floor.
Good luck.
BandDirector Blk98ZM6 05-24-2002, 12:09 PM Welcome to my 1 1/2 year old nightmare!
I've gutted my interior, checked the seal around the windshield, looked at every grommet, and still, I get water in my passenger side floorboard everytime it rains. I've made numerous post about this over at www.ls1.com (http://www.ls1.com) and tried many things and nothings worked. I don't even have T-Tops.
If you find the solution, please post it because I've pretty much just given up. Every time it rains, I pull the mats up and put towels in the floorboards to soak up the water.
Good luck!
mmannSS 05-24-2002, 01:06 PM one more place you could look is the bolts that hold the seat down. I haven't take the seats out of my camaro but my truck seat bolts go all the way through the floor board. I had the seat out and you can see straight to the ground. just a thought. Good luck guys.

BandDirector Blk98ZM6 05-25-2002, 07:38 PM BAD NEWS! The GM Major Guard Warranty covers everything EXCEPT wind/water leaks! I paid almost a $1000 for my $0 deductible GM Major Guard Warranty and it will NOT cover my water problem! And of course my problem didn't develop until 3 months after I ran out of the original warranty!
BandDirector Blk98ZM6 05-25-2002, 09:21 PM I did a search and found my 2 threads on this subject over at www.ls1.com (http://www.ls1.com) There's a lot of good information in them:

Mikie 05-25-2002, 11:54 PM Well Here is the scoop...
I took the car to the dealer this morning and they were telling me that since this was Saturday that they couldnt do anything until Monday morning.I got a dealer loaner car and left mine there. As I sat at the house I became more and more frustrated and wanted to do something.I decided that I would call the dealer and go pick up my car and pull the carpet myself.Well they had already closed shop and went home so I decided I was gonna grab my spare key and run by the dealer. They just parked my car out back with 20 or so other cars without a fence or anything.I parked the Dodge Neon loaner (barf) http://web.camaross.com/bb/biggrin.gif
and got into my car and drove it to the house. There I proceeded to take out seats, belts, bolts, consol, carpet and found that im leaking in the driver floor and both back seat compartments, you know the two bowls you sit in http://web.camaross.com/bb/biggrin.gif
I had to pull out most all of my undermatting because it was soaked and heavy!!! I vacuumed all of the water and observed the little rubber grommets(we have 3 per side)and around the ones where water was they were not sealing very well.I popped them out,ran a thick bead of silicone inside the rubber grommets and popped them back in.
One thing is for sure...
I went to the track last week and ran a 13.26 with the mods below and 2.73 gear and probably carrying about 40 lbs of soggy carpet undermatting around with me.Hopefully I will pick up half a tenth now that I pulled all of my undermatting material out.
I have a question though regarding me getting my car.
Did I do wrong by picking up my car after dealer hours without thier knowledge?
Wonder if they will mind ?
Thanks guys

Mikie 05-26-2002, 12:06 AM BandDirector,
I really think the grommets are my problem because when I applied a small amount of pressure with one finger they just fell out!
The passenger area that was dry as a bone had some guey sealant around the grommet and it was ver tough to push it out.I silicone sealed all of them and I will report if this fixes the problem.

stik6shift98 05-27-2002, 01:52 AM where are the grommets
its only me passenger side could you be really specific thanks
Mikie 05-27-2002, 08:32 AM Ok,
I pulled up the carpet and in the bottom floor pan you will notice 3 round rubber grommets per side.1 in the driver floor,1 in the rear floor and 1 in the rear seat bowl.
If you inspect the grommets and they just push through without a fight then it is probably leaking around it.I talked to the dealer and he said that from the factory they put sealant around those and to his knowledge have never had a problem.
I must be the first because 4 of my 6 grommets pushed right through. These were also the places the water was.I inspected and found the passenger front and rear floor were fine and the grommets had glue stuff on them.I pushed them out and re- siliconed them just because I was already in there and didnt intend on going through this hell again.
Let me know if I made sence or not.

Unfortunately, I can see the stream in my car from the top of the center hump and top of the carpet on my passenger side all the way to the puddle, so I'm confident my problem is not the gromments on the floorboard...I've definately got another kind of problem. When I gutted my interior the 1st time due to my padding mildewing, I too noticed the gromments, but they were fine.
Please keep me posted on if the grommets were indeed the source of your problem. Thanks!

Bill'sWS6 05-28-2002, 05:01 PM My car has been leaking on the drivers side for about a year now. It has been at the dealership for a total of about 10 weeks trying to find the damm leak.......
Here is a way to help you narrow down your problemStrip down the car around the area of the leak, plastic panel pieces and carpet. Then you take food coloring of dark colors (Red, Blue or Orange) When the car is dry apply food coloring to the T-Top seal areas (one color), apply another suspected seal that may be leaking. Make sure this has ample time to dry. Then take your car up to a pressure wash place. One at a time apply water to the seal areas you have covered with food coloring. After a few mins open your door and look in the place the water has been collecting. Lookfor what color the water now is. This will tell you the area your leak is in. Then you need to do the same thing again with food coloring except half the leaking eal one color, the other half another color. Keep doing this until you figure your problem area out.
Hope this helps you out.

Mikie 07-20-2002, 04:54 PM UPDATE
The car has been fixed for a while now.
I took it in under warranty and threatened to give it back and consult a lawyer.
They called in a leak specialist from GM and he took my car for 3 days.
He had to order all new door and t-top mouldings.
It does not leak a drop now.
Thanks fellas

fbird95 06-23-2003, 02:28 AM I join the nightmare,
I doubt my problem is gomets though. I have this drip on the pasenger side, a singal drop sits on the trim for the t-top and just drip drip drip, like chineese water torture. It eventually ends up behind the pasenger seat, and after this recent heavy rain here in the North East, it was on the back side of the pasenger seat too.
I know that 4th gens seal 20 times better than 3rds, but GM I'm calling you out on this one. I know Damn well they can make a car with a solid seal. I file this one under opti-spark. Planned incoveinece, to get money from pissed off people with leaks.
BandDirector Blk98ZM6 06-23-2003, 07:05 PM My problems have actually gotten worse over the past 2 years. I have a new problem that's got my car smelling mildewey AGAIN. The seam in the driver's side back hatch has now started letting water drip and it makes its way under the carpet UNDER the driver side back seat. I found that leak after 3 weeks of a HORRIBLE smell in my car. I actually had about a 1/2" of water puddled under the seat. I fixed it 2 weeks ago and the smell still hasn't gone away. I replaced all the padding, etc., too!
DecadentZ 06-23-2003, 09:42 PM I had a similar problem with my 97 Camaro leaking water on the passenger side floor board while parked during a rain event. I took it to the dealer twice and they did leak checks with no positive results (They couldn't re-create the leakes). I know there was a leak because I sat in my car during a hard rain in NE Florida and saw the water drip from somewhere above the glove box and down the center hub to the floor.
One ???, do you park your cars level? Almost every time my car had a problem it was nose high on the parking lot (the lot was not level). If I backed in...nose low... the problem didn't seem to appear as much.
I told this to the dealer and it didn't help.
If the dealer would have resealed the winshield that would have helped with the fault isolation a bit, but they were no help.
This problem (other than it being a V6) was the reason I traded up! So I guess is was a good thing.
fbird95 06-24-2003, 01:46 AM I actually used the silicone method in attempt to make a better seal, despite what it may do to the rubber. it cant get worse.
I really want to track down this drip. Its on and off and just irritates like a bad rash.
to makes things worse, its headliner time. I just cant wait to find out how much a headliner runs from GM. It looks like it cost about 37 cents to make,
BandDirector Blk98ZM6 06-24-2003, 10:02 PM One ???, do you park your cars level? Almost every time my car had a problem it was nose high on the parking lot (the lot was not level). If I backed in...nose low... the problem didn't seem to appear as much.
I'm screwed. My driveway is on a hill. I can park with my nose uphill and get water in my passenger side floorboard, or I can park with the nose facing downhill and get water under my driver's side back seat.
My wife and I started house looking today for our 1st house and we've decide a 2 car garage is a MUST, so my problems may be gone soon...but not because they're fixed ;)
