Why is it louder in his car then mine-subs

ok, here's another thing i am wondering about- i have a 94 camaro had the stock 3 spk bose sys i got a new head unit put in and the front 2 spks replaced and the 3rd one still works my friend has a 91 camaro just has a after market hu put in and 2 new spks but we both have one 12 and an amp both amps are different his is better then mine, or so i thought both amps push his sub a whole lot better in his car then i can in my car my amp pushes his sub much better then his did but it pushes mine no where near like his and i thought his amp was better bc his hits harder but when i put it in my car it doesnt hit at all does anyone nkow why this is happening my wires are better then his and im not running my rcas and power wire next to each other like he is

if you look at myfirst post it says i had <---past tense, had a 3 speaker bose and i got new speakers

My bad... it threw me when you labeled his stereo as an aftermarket and just said you replaced yours...I just figured you put in a new bose HU and speakers...plus I lost a few brain cells trying to read the rest of the thread :)

since you know how the set up is now does anyone know the answer

hmmm I'm thinking maybe the voltage of his stereo maybe higher than yours...I've noticed that by changing head units...from a 2volt to a 4volt preamp...

anyway i can change that my cd player i know cost more hten his and both are jvc's

how it's setup.. you still haven't said a thing about the subs, amps, boxes, wiring, etc.....

his jvc kamelan hu has sub preouts and rcas plugged into them rcas and power wire ran w/ eachother to the amp, all i know its a alpine supose to be 200w 2 channel at i dont know what to one audiobauhn 12 in the trunk

when we just switch amps it doesnt push my stuff nearly as hard as it will in his

well, the #1 thing... you CAN NOT bridge a 4channel amp to MONO!!!!!!!!!!

You are going to blow that amp up if that's how it's wired...

and that's could be causing 95% of your problem there... get a nice 2ch amp... if you're on a budget look at a JBL 600.1 or a Us Acousitcs...

I'd say it's your amps... fist thing.. you're not pushing enough juice for that sub... heck you said it yourself. it's a 200Wx2... whereas yours is wired down to a 100x1 if you only have 2 channel's bridged. there's your difference...

i know you can not bridge a 4 channel into mono, i said tho when i put my amp in his car wired the same say as mine, it pushes much harder then in my car and when i put his in my car it doesnt push no where near as hard

How are the subs wired? If/are they are DVC subs? You could have a 4 Ohm load, and his might be 2 Ohm. His speaker will be seeing twice the power from the amp.

I'd almost be willing to be his sub is a DVC... and wired in parallel.. giving it 1/2 the impedence... thus 2 ohms, vs your 4 ohms...

HurstWS6speed..........how many subs do you have. In another post you said you have two of them and we tried for 3 days to explain to you how to wire them up paralell (I know that this is a difficult concept to grasp). Now you have 1??? WHY DID I TRY FOR THREE FRIGGIN DAYS TO TRY TO EXPLAIN THAT TO YOU. :mad:

Doesn't make a difference on the grand sceme of things if the gains are adjusted correctly.

You do bring up a good point though. Maybe they aren't adjusting the gains for the different set up's.

So many factors at play here.

1. You aren't dealing with the same subs so theres efficency of the subs that will come into play.

2. There's no mention of box size of these subs or box configuration. The size of the box makes a difference on a subs performance and also on how well it can perform per given power. The configuration (sealed, ported, bandpass) can also make a difference here.

3. What are the configuration of the subs voice coils? Are they dual voice coil subs or are they single voice coil subs and what is the impedance of those voice coils? Also, what type of load is given to the amp?

You give basic details of what you are comparing but in the end you aren't giving enough details to really be able to answer your question.

Since we are talking about two different interiors it could just be the way the cabin gain works out for how the subs are put in that makes that happen. The cars interior boosts the sub output a lot so that is also a major factor to have factored into this comparsion.
