madwolf 07-05-2003, 03:58 PM I have a '93 Z with a bad engine and I got a newer engine to swap in. A friend promised to help but I haven't heard from him lately and I need to get this done quick. Anyone willing to help me with this? It's just an engine swap, nothing else, so with a few guys, it shouldn't take more than a few hours.
I'll provide beer and food and program your 94-97 LT1 free. (I can also do 92s and 93s)
Some tools would be great too. I loaned this friend of mine most of my tools and I don't know what he did with them...
Teal94Z 07-05-2003, 10:08 PM If I lived close, I would be glad to help, but a 4 hour drive...hehe, good luck
Dave Feerst 07-08-2003, 10:21 PM what kind of lifting equip do you have?
CoronaL 07-09-2003, 07:38 PM hi Ion
how much equipt do you have. Is the engine ready to drop in or does it need to be prepped to be 93 Year sensors etc...
I suppose you have a hoist etc...
I might be able to help but not sure how much help I could be.

I'm about 45mins to an hour away
Dave Feerst 07-09-2003, 08:02 PM Im out there every few weeks, I used to live there. but from where I live now its a 3 hour drive. So as of now, I cant afford the gas to go up there. Im thinking of moving back out there on august 1st, If you still havent done it by then I may be up for it.
madwolf 07-10-2003, 03:40 AM Sorry guys, not much equipment available since this will be in a regular garage. The engine is ready to be dropped in. I'm thinking of pulling it through the bottom. So a few hydraulic jacks and an engine puller should do. I don't have an engine puller yet, but I should be able to borrow one. (rent it if I can't borrow it)
I'm gonna do some prep work tomorrow, hopefully drop it by the end of the week, so if anyone wants to stop by, let me know... I could always use some help.
CoronaL 07-10-2003, 08:32 AM i've got a butload of sockets and a very nice large floor jack, I also have an uber crappy small floor jack too and 2 descent jackstands
I could probably come over sat afternoon or the entire sunday if you wanted. One or the other. Wife gets funny if I spend more weekend time with friends/others than with her :O.
it would work out best if you could start some of the disassembly prior to whomever comes to help to just get some of the dink work done that takes time but isn't necessarily hard.

Dave Feerst 07-10-2003, 10:54 AM well. I have heard people say they did it that way, but frankly, I dont see how. my exhaust tips were hittiiing the ground long before I had the body high enough to go over the engine so you would have to remove the cat-back. Also, once you jack up the body how are you going to push it back with the cradle in the way? On mine we got around this while taking the motor out by lifting the car just high enough for the shouchs to clear the wheel wells, then we ( 2 people) lifted and carried the cradle out sideways. then we centered the cradle on a rim/tire under our chainfall. and dropped the engine onthe cradle and did final prep. then we moved the body as close as we could with the engine lift.(about the nose of the car over the intake) hooked both the chainfall and the engine lift to the strut tower brace, and transfered weight to the chanfall which pulled forward the body till it was centered over the engine. make sure you put the trans on the engine while it is out of the car and sitting out of car, it will save you 1-3 hours.
madwolf 07-10-2003, 11:14 AM Dave, we've done it before, in the same garage. You put the back of the car on ramps, then jack up the front.
Most of the prep work is done as of right now. Tomorrow morning, the engine will be out, but my friend who's helping won't have a whole lot of time afterwards, so John or anyone else who could help, we could do something Sunday. And yes, I know the "wife" feeling (although in my case it's the "girlfriend" feeling) and that's why I wake up at 6:30 and work till about 10. :o
Sunday will work for me. If you could email me your phone number, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks guys.
