On my 1997 it had 2.73's and it didn't show it because of something to do with the noise level or something but i was wondering if that was the same with the LS1's or not. Also if not then how do you tell the difference without pulling the cover off to see what gears you have?

Look on the option code list(most are inside drivers door but some are in the glovebox)
GU2=2.73
GU5=3.23 or w/6speed 3.42

I have 2.73's (GU2 code) in my 99 Z28 and I have a "1" selection in my gear shift. I think what you're talking about changed in 98 when the F-Bodies got the LS1.
