Over heating issues, I think I need a new fan.

Coolant is full, water pump is fine, changed the relay, yet the car still over heats when driving around the city. I think the fan isnt spinning fast enough. Any good direct replacements for these things? Or is a new stocker good enough.

thanks!

What about your thermostat? I went with a 160 degree and it helped alot.

do u have the air dam underneath the car that rams air up into the radiator? if not, thats ur prob most likely. if u wanna see if the fans work or not,go drive the car for like 2 or 3 min. and then stop and pull over/go back home, pop the hood and watch the fans and see if they come on.

hope this helps

The 'driving around' part screams 'thermostat' to me. Less likely would be a failing waterpump. If it were stop-n-go traffic, then I'd be focusing on the fans...but if you are just crusing around doing normal driving then it's probably the thermostat. The movement of the car in driving should be pushing plenty of air through the radiator to cool the car, but without a working thermostat the coolant wont cycle through the car.

Also look in between the radiator and A/C condensor for leaves and debris...you may not be getting enough airflow to keep her cool.

well i meant stop and go traffic when i said driving around in the city.
If i'm at a constant speed it will stay halfway up on warm days, once I start stopping excessively it will rise.

I will check for debris blocking the radiator though, I havent checked for that.

Yup, like they said.. if it is all the time.. look at thermostat.. if it is just when you stop it climes... then i would check the fans.. There is a trick you can do as far as seeing if its the relay or actually the fan motor. I beleive you can put a paperclip to two points of the aldl located under the steering column and then putin the car to start.. not on.. but start and it should turn the fan on right away. You will see if both fans are coming on or not.. my main fan went out and in order to keep the car semi-cool while looking at getting another fan.. i made the second fan the main and just tied up the second connector.. I got a rebuilt fan from a local camaro/salvage yard and stuck it in. first one wasn't good.. took it back and got another he had and it has worked fine. I, along with other projects, am working on making two fan switches.. one for each fan... either being on auto or on. I could just leave it in auto and it will come on when it suppose to.. or if i see the conditions will be to much for the car or if i want to cool it down between runs at the track i can just flip it on when i want.. run a second source of battery to it so i can have it on while the car is off as well and not worry about draining the battery.

I have the same problem. Airdam is there, new as of today-->160* Thermostat, antifreeze, water wetter, temp. Sender, rad cap. 2 month old Stewart water pump( no leaks and bearing feels good) 1 year old stock rad. Fan comes on/off correctly, upper/lower/heater hoses all same temp., no codes, timing set to 6*,when car is started without rad cap you can see water circulates... My motor is a 355 TPI heavily modded 10.5:1. Am I needing a heavy duty rad? Would a bad temp sensor do this? Help..
