Special thanks to Tom Casey for all the hard work doing an intake swap in one day and dynoing it before and after even!
There have been people waiting for some hard data on weather the LT1 intake conversion is comparable to other Aftermarket intakes. All of us that are/were running TPI know they are very limited in the performance dept as is from the factory.
Here's the feature Tom wrote and documented as published in the August 2003 issue of Popular hot Rodding comparing these 2 wonderful replacement EFI intakes.

Wow, I never realized that they were that similar. I always thought the supperram would produce more torque down low, guess I was right. It looks like an easy choice if you want the hp, the lt1 intake is the way to go. That's really great info, thanks.
I don't know if you post over at thirdgen.org, but I'm sure many of those guys would love this. I visit there every couple days or so, so if you don't post it, I will sometime soon. ;)

Can anyone offer some insight into how the two compare to the TPIS MiniRam? I am looking into buying a third gen with a very similar setup and had been considering a MiniRam....

The track results suck, looks like he didn't have any traction.
A good comparison on the same car, but the intakes need different supporting components to really shine, but we all knew that.

millican,
I already bought a complete injection system from a '95 Caprice 5.7L LT1 and plan to do the conversion detailed at your site, but the last paragraph of the PHR article has me intrigued to say the least....
**PHR Article Quote**
"Another option to look at is to use a set of stock LT1 cylinder heads on the traditional block. Some modifications to the head on the deck surface would be required, as the LT1 cylinder heads are different in this regard. Having said that, as LT1 heads are aluminum, flow fairly decent, and can sometimes be found for less than $300 used."
I have found a set of aluminum '95 Z28 heads CHEAP...I mean REALLY CHEAP for aluminum that is! Do you know if this is possible?
I know that the LT1's are a reverse flow engine, but I know for a fact that the LT1 heads will physically bolt on a old style Small Block. I just need to figure out exactly what "modifications" are needed to make them work.
Although work will need to be done to the heads; it will in turn make the installation of the LT1 fuel injection system much easier from a fabrication standpoint.....
Thanks for any help you might have!

Rich,
You are correct, the LT1 heads and intake would make a wonderful combination without having to swap engines completely.
The LT1 heads are reverse flow. They will need modified to flow normal in order to work on a SBC. Here's a tech article on how it's done. I have never done it personally though.

If you do the head mods then the LT1 intake won't need the bolt pattern changed either. That would save you money if you wanted me to do the intake for you leaving more left over to convert the heads.

Might sound wierd but I'd be interested in seeing the results of a 305/LT1 intake swap. Someone step up!!

AutoRoc,
I am planning a 287 CID that will rev forever backed by a 5 or 6 speed. I will try to document the entire process along the way once it gets off the ground.
The Chevy 305, 307, 327 are all great candidates for the intake/heads from a donor LT1.
