I just got a stencil for my Z-28 third brake light from bret franker.
He sent me an email saying to use the soapy water trick when applying it. I know he is a busy man so I dont want to bother him asking exact details. Is it like putting on tint. I thought I could just peel and apply. The stencil looks great by the way.

All the soapy water will do is allow you to stick and remove (say, if you put it on crooked or whatever). So, you don't HAVE to, but its recommended.:)

Get it on there and lets see some pics!

I just got the decals I order from him in the mail today.

I would recomend using soapy water also. (I've done these decals before) It really helps you get it all lined up just right. Otherwise, once the decal makes contact, thats about it. If its not where you wanted it, you are SOL.

I *highly* recommend using some soapy water on these because you need to slightly stretch them and the soapy water will allow you to do this. Here is what I mean by the soapy water trick :D

Get an empty sprayer bottle. Preferably a new sprayer bottle but if using a 'used' one like a Formula 409 bottle or something then be sure it is cleaned out GOOD!!!. Take this empty sprayer bottle and put like ONE drop of soap in it. Fill it the rest of the way up with water. Don't get carried away with the soap... you'll notice that even with just like one drop it'll still suds up when you shake it.

Take the brake light out and clean it good with rubbing alcohol. Let it dry.

Peel the decal off its backing... it'll be stuck to the application tape. Soak completely the sticky side of the decal and the brake light with the soapy water.

Pick up the decal and gently place it on the brake light... use the two screw holes for alignment. When you align the two screw holes in the light with the holes in the stencil, it is in the proper place. Now that it is in the proper place, firmly press/rub with your thumb on the decal starting in the center and rubbing out to the edge. This will stick the decal to the light. You'll notice the edges may not be stuck very good... that's OK. Now work on peeling back the application tape... be careful not to peel the decal off the light when doing this! Once the application tape is removed, you'll most likely see some bubbles under the vinyl and it also won't be stuck real good around the edges. Now just work the bubbles out with your thumb by rubbing the bubbles to the edge. Rub the edges where the decal isn't stuck real good. Keep rubbing until all the edges are stuck and all the bubbles are out. This may take several minutes. Take a look at the pics below and you'll see how you need to slightly "stretch" the decal a little to make it a smooth fit... this is why it is necessary to keep rubbing it until it sticks good!

Yeah, definately use the soapy water and get it right the first time, 'cause once you have that bad boy on...it's on for good. I put mine on (overlays) then decided I didn't care for the look (because the decal slightly overlapped the emblem) and went to take it off the following day...and it took me for-freaking-ever to get it off!

Its been my experience that the best way to work out any bubbles and wrinkles is to finish the whole process that Bret outlined above by taking an old hair dryer and heating the sticker, then smoothing everything out with a damp terrycloth towel.

I was able to turn a sticker that was messed-up, into a flawless application that looked painted on. ;)

Excellent! Yeah, I can't wait to see some pics and see how this actually works. The one I did is still sitting here in my computer room. I have yet to see it installed. LOL!

just a quick tip, as opposed to keep rubbing the thing, to insert my chrome CAMARO inserts, after you put them in place, you can get a hair dryer, and they will stick right away, this is what i did, and the inserts look professionally done...this is another proper way to do it right brent?

Yeah, that works too! The big difference is the rear CAMARO inserts are being installed on a flat surface. The stencil has to be stretched slightly. Rubbing it helps to stretch it and add a little heat to the vinyl which aids in the stretching process. A hair dryer will quicken this and work too. I was just making the instructions as easy as I could but by all means... if you have a hair dryer and want to use it as well, go for it! :D

That doesn't look too bad! Thanks for the pics!

There is a slight amount of light "bleeding" around the edges and I expected that.

I suppose I could offer two versions... one like what you have and one that is slightly larger but will REQUIRE use of a hair dryer or heat gun and "folding" of the vinyl around the edges. Install would be much more difficult. Do you think I should offer a slightly larger one as well or just not worry about it? The way it is now doesn't look "bad" in my opinion but it might bug some people. Any thoughts on this from anybody?

Here is a link to where I got the gauges. Yes of course its EBAY. These are not the exaxt same one I think the control knob to change the color is different but the gauge style is the same. Pro car parts is who I got mine off of though. Also did you get your alarm done yet. I got the mannix off ebay which is just like yours and I love it. I had a shop do it though because I wanted to remote start my 6 speed and didnt want to mess it up.

Nice gauges too, strange but it seeems that every person that sells those type of gauges call them their own. I have seen them called G4, G2 and other names yet they all look the same.

Hey Brent and everybody. I've been away for a while, but I'm back.
Regarding the decal, the bleeding would get on my nerves personally.

Regarding your other decals, Brent, did you ever get that CAMARO Z28 decal I wanted for my air dam?

You posted a prototype a while back that i responded to (it looked great) but i couldnt find the thread.
Keep us posted on the site updates. Later man,

I'm going to redo the rear brake decal to fix the bleeding thing. It will be a more difficult install but I think it will be worth it.

I also just responded to your other thread and will work on the modified version of the CAMARO Z28 decal you wanted.

Thanks!
