my 81 camaro has one of those scoops that look like a tear drop. There are slots facing the winshield that have metal on them like doors. They open and close by hand but theres nothing connected to it. I read somewhere online that it opens at full throttle but im not sure. Does anyone know about these?

There's a solonoid that activates the flap.

The activation switch under the gas pedal might be bad, or the solonoid might be gone, or the wiring may have come disconnected. With a little troubleshooting you should be able to isolate the problem.

Ya there is just a solenoid (a magnet that moves a rod when electricity is applied) that is controlled by a wide open throttle (WOT) switch on the gas pedal. Both parts are fairly available from places such as Year One. I have both here but want to sell them with the scoop.

Full throttle. As in pedal to metal. Heel to the steel. Boot into the radiator.

Only supposed to open when your foot is on the floor, although you can adjust it wherever you like. You could use almost any push button "momentary on" switch for the pedal mounted one. I think they are fairly cheap to buy the correct one though.

Yeah, the correct switch under the gas pedal costs something like $15 at a GM dealer. At least mine did around 8 years ago.

I have mine wired to a toggle switch. Flipp it on to have it open when the ign. is on or off to have work only when the pedal is to the floor.
