darrens99formul 06-15-2003, 09:16 AM I am new to this board and need some help. After multiple firebird/camaro v6 cars I finally bought a 99 formula with the 5.7L 350 in it. First and only mod so far is I did the dynomouth courtosy of all the plugs ratio411 provided here. AWESOME sound and performance for only $148.00!
I now want to improve air flow. I was thinking about the slp cold air intake kit or the ssra ram air kit. Also I bought a ram air hood which will be done in 5 weeks for only 480 bucks brand new. So bare that in mind when replying.
so should I go with:
1). slp cold air induction package deal that includes lid, k & n filter and bellows.
2). ssra ram air kit.
3). ram air package kit that uses the hood I ordered (does one exist and if so where can I buy it?)
Any advice and replys would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance for the help.

p.s. I'm looking for which would be max HP for helping my car get better 1/4 mile times. Thanks again.
SunsetWS6 06-15-2003, 01:41 PM Just get a lid & filter. As far as a CAI, FTRA is a solid choice.
SwingDriverZ28 06-15-2003, 04:02 PM I dunno about the SSRA....
1.I have to go slow enough over bumps already i wouldn't want to worry about busting it up.
2. every one knows you have it. I am sure it works awesome though
I have slp CAI and love it! I have a whisper lid with K&n filter and slp smooth bellow. WIth slp CAI i noticed it big time esp. shifting into 3rd. it makes the car pull so hard!.... ( No one knows you got it either)
I am sure what ever you go with you will be happy, but i love my setup. ( haven't lost to another F-body yet)
2000 SS M6
ZIPPERR 06-15-2003, 04:36 PM I would go with the TSP lid. Seems like one of the best out there. I am getting mine in a couple weeks.. I got my Smooth beloow on ebay for $30 bucks. FYI

id have to agree.......

ChrisLS1Bird 06-15-2003, 05:07 PM FYI the LS1 is a 346 CID engine, not 350 CID.

If you are getting a WS-6 style hood look into the BG Ram Air. I know I guy that said he got .2 on thta alone. It is the best for the Ram Air cars. If not then go with the SSRA.
darrens99formul 06-16-2003, 08:25 AM Thanks for the replys guys. I was looking for the tsp lid but found no info on it. Anyone know where to buy one?
I decided to go try and find a ws-6 airbox to make my hood functional for starters and then replace the lid and filter. I was reading the ftra info and they say you can and should add this to a ws6 ram air vehicle for even better results. Is this true or are they just looking for my $$$. Will I have more HP with both factory ram air and ftra?
Thanks again.

There are 4 under filter/lid induction set ups. The FTRA, SLP, and Whisper are almost identical. They all stop at the hood latch support. The SSRA has the same thing but also a lower box that scoops in air. This lower box slides into the upper box and attaches to the front bumper. Do a search on this board to see how other people like them. Remember these 3 are almost all identical. Dimension wise, the SLP flows the least, Whisper and FTRA next, with the SSRA the most.

darrens99formul 06-17-2003, 11:31 AM SSRA seems to be the best. But will it add to the factory ws6 ram air from the hood or replace it?

I'd skip the hood, get an SSRA, and use the rest of the money saved from hood, paint, install for headers or other mods.
SR71 Blackbird 06-17-2003, 01:22 PM I got the K&N FIPK. I swear it added 30 hp. Feels like another car.:thumb:

This will add to it, and/or replace it. Are you buying the hood for appearance or function?

I put the lid back on for a day to see if I could feel the difference between lid and FIPK and the car once moving pulls tons harder than the lid. With the lid the car does however move faster off the line because of the lower IAT temps vs fipk.
darrens99formul 06-17-2003, 06:04 PM I was buying the hood for appearance mainly but I am considering not buying the hood and spending the money on other mods now that I found a cool decal stripe set that looks good on RA or non RA hood.
If I had the ram air hood and then closed the 1-2" gap how would that hp increase compare to ssra? I still like the RA hood idea for better piece of mind when it rains (I hear there is a risk of hydrolock with ssra). Still not sure which way to go but I am definately getting tsp lid and holly filter :)

The chance of hydrolocking is overated. If you walk outside to get in your car and see that it's going to rain, or it is raining, put in a block off. If your driving and it starts raining, stop and seal it up.
Simple enough.

Good choice...and for the cold air, I'd go with the FTRA (JMO).

PS- You know you can put this in your profile/signature, so you don't have to keep typing it.
