So is this SRT-4 on a new platform--or at least have all the reliability issues been worked out of the Neon platform? If so, I might reconsider buying a new Chrysler...

Thumbs up

Good stuff, shows Dodge and Mopar are really serious about making the SRT a serious contender in the sport compact market.

Stage I is only the beginning. Soon there will be Stage II and Stage III.http://community.webshots.com/album/55818469rcyhhd
(click on individual pics for specs)

Stage III will take an SRT-4 to a conservative300hp.

I have to chuckle at the 240hp claim for Stage I. SRT-4 power ratings are purposely under rated by Dodge. They are already getting that much at the crank....stock.

Also noted that stage III is not street legal.

Who cares?

Pretty cool to see some mopar factory supported power. Hey, we can get a 50 hp supercharger for like $90,000 from the dealership on jbodies!

GM dropping the ball, imagine that lol.

I didn't necessarily mean to imply negative connotations to the fact that it's not street legal.

Think of it this way....These stage III cars are going to go to tracks. Same as a lot of Stage II and I cars. Once these cars start running the tracks with their numbers word will get around and ...boom... practically instant recognition where it counts!!

Kudos to Mopar!

Subaru WRX STi is street legal with 300 HP. What's the deal with Dodge?

Nothing really. Both are Turbo'd 4 bangers too. The price, though, is the big difference. That and the fact that one is a Neon ( a car viewed as being very lowly). Gotta give kudos to Dodge for taking the neon this far.

The 300 HP Dodge is $10K less than the STi? Or is that the 200 HP Dodge?

The point, however, was street legality. Subaru managed to get their 300 HP car street legal.

neither. It would be the 220 hp dodge. But, I stand corrected: it actually appears to be closer to a $15,000 difference.

"ooh, I'll take 2 of those yellow ones, please."

Oh, and street legality? *shrug* My Z hasnt been "street legal" in a loooong time. No hair off my back. Wouldnt be driving a 4 banger either. So, no more hair off my back. I'd guess for 15 large, you could probably get the 300 package tuned to pass emissions.
