Just bought a new chevy silverado with black paint. I've been watching these forums for a while since I had a z28. Do I need to wait a while before waxing and polishing? Also, is anyone using Meguiar's products?

How long to wait for waxing/polishing new truck?chewy41 06-12-2002, 03:23 PM Just bought a new chevy silverado with black paint. I've been watching these forums for a while since I had a z28. Its best to get a coat of wax/sealant on before you get a lot of contaminants on it. For carnuba, Meguiars gold class is pretty good. Also check out Mothers products if you want something you can pick up at a local store. ------------------ Chris™ (http://www2.gvsu.edu/~stigersc) <A HREF="http://www2.gvsu.edu/~stigersc/car.html" TARGET=_blank>'97 Cutty - "Pull Me Over" Red & "Gimme a ticket" Yellow </A> The Peter Potter Philanthropy Party Project posts perfect prose again!! Kevin V 2002 SS 06-12-2002, 06:21 PM The paint is cured before you receive a new car/truck. I'd go ahead and clay it as well, even new vehicles have contaminants on them. I clayed my 99 SS and my 2002 SS right off the truck. Of course for protection, my favorite is Zaino. ------------------ Kevin Villier, 2002 SS #186 - 6M with Hurst and "short-stick", TT, navy blue, chrome SS wheels, Bilstein suspension, SS grill, STB, SLP loudmouth, Direct-Flo lid with Holley filter and Mallory polished MAF ends. Louisville, KY 35TH ED/ed 06-13-2002, 11:56 AM I like the meguires cleaner followed by the polish to get a good base. Then I went with the Zymol Carbon for a wax. The car has a goor mirror like finish. A friend at work has a Sierra stepside and uses the carbon with excellent results. As for the clay I did not use this I've heard pro and con about the process with the stripes on the 35th and did not want to take a chance. | ||
