haha yeah i moved up north less than a year ago. i used to race in langley on the weekends in my truck a while back. most of hte guys from bcsr know me.
Camaro ChriSS 06-14-2003, 01:04 PM Well, if you want to TT eventually, and have somewhere to do the tuning (not an easy issue, IMO) then LS1 may be your best bet. There has been a little bit more attention paid to developing aftermarket TT research than for LT1s. It's still not as popular as the H/C or SC option, but there is quite a strong LS1 TT (or single turbo) data base. Rob Raymer probably being the best source.
93TAWicked1 06-14-2003, 02:12 PM If your going to crazy mod it (which a twin turbO would be) LT1 hands down, one you start going crazy the motors actually even out a bit.
Also I like the feel of the LT1 I just can't get used to this LS1 I always feel like somethings going to break, where as the LT1 just begs for more :)
The aftermarket is stronger for the LT1 although all the specialty companies are developing stuff for the LS1 and the LT1 is being forgotten so that could change.
Both are great cars!!
Bobby
oldschool 06-14-2003, 04:06 PM To be honest you can't loose with either. But...
I you are just going to do simple bolt on's, the LS1 ALL THE WAY!!!
For crazy modding, I'd go LT1, (cars and mods are cheaper, and more developement time has taken place) unless you have deep pockets. There was a good point about Lt1's being forgotten, but I don't think that will last because LT1's are getting cheaper and the that means more people will mod them. Therefore, aftermarket companies will have to supply the demand.
Andy
Smoke Show 06-14-2003, 04:50 PM thanks for the advice but after sitting on my ass all day doing reseach i've learned twin turbo setups seem to be more popular on ls1's for some strange reason... i can only find single turbo **** fo the lt1.
so if you know of a good deal on an 98 camaro (might even live with a pontiac) i'd be all over it.
sideways_Into_3rd 06-14-2003, 05:26 PM if i had to do it all over again ... id go with a 2001 LS1 WS6 .. just make sure if ur gettin an LS1 make sure its 2001+ .. the 98 - 01 models all have problems up the ass ... piston slaping, oil burning .. and none of the dyno or run decent numbers ... a bone stock 02 WS6 ( twich's car) dynoed 330 RWHP .. BONE STOCK ! with a muffler and a K&N ... thats freakin amazing ! but any 98-00 LS1s ive seen dyno in the 280 range and run slower at the track
that being said.. i have an LTx motor and i love it ... im so far into the thing i wouldnt ever sell it for an LS1 .. i know the whole thing like the back of my hand and i will defend its title to death :p so bring it on LS1 boys...
btw, glad u made it to our board ... looks like ur a nirtous junkie like myself :D

Humph. Now I hate to differ too much, but mine is a 2000, an automatic (with a high stall hp-robbing TC), and the same mods that twich has and I dyno 319rwhp. There is nothing wrong with the '00 model if an A4 can dyno within 10 of a 6-speed with a high stall convertor. Probably means in reality my engine is actually making more hp.
So, there is nothing wrong with a 2000. Though I will definitely agree with you that some 02s pull massive #'s, and some 98-99 cars pull disturbingly low numbers.
I'd just look for the best price-deal overall and go from there. If you CAN get an 01-02, do so - but if not, get a 98, 99, or 00 and add the lS6 intake.
Btw, I LOVE twitch's car!!! Can't go wrong with that beast.
sideways_Into_3rd 06-14-2003, 08:18 PM ok my bad .. the line is between 98-99 and 00+
but there IS a line in the LS1s where they get better
who remembers that guy with a peweter 99 formula ?! that kept having problems with his 99 and went back and forth to the dealer every week and was complaining about his car every day on here !? he went as far as getting his oil analyzed by a lab to prove to the dealer that there is something majorly wrong with his motor and the dealer finally bought his car back
NiteRider 06-14-2003, 08:20 PM LT1 with 32 valve heads
mr00jimbo 06-14-2003, 09:01 PM Payam brings in alot of memebers, eh?
What's your secret payam? Hanging around strange corners at all hours of the night? ;) :p
Welcome man :)
LS1 = the way to go!
Pandamonkey 06-14-2003, 09:17 PM You're getting a lot of votes from LT1 guys - for the LS1:shock:
Here's another one.
Go LS1 - if it's a Camaro you choose, only change the front end for the older style LT1 front.
If it's a Firebird you choose - no changes neccesary, you'll already have a kickazz looking ride.:)
blue 79 Z/28 06-14-2003, 09:29 PM can you turn the older style fronts to the newer ones?? i want info on this now!! lol:D
thanx

very easily
blue 79 Z/28 06-15-2003, 03:15 AM dammit!! that still doesnt answer my damn question!:irk:
Drumhawk 06-15-2003, 03:39 AM Not that you boys really care but the new LS1's get great gas mileage. I get well over 300 kilometers per tank of fast driving. They are rated up to 35 miles per gallon.

only fourth gens not second gens! yeah the car is the same frame/cab. the only difference is the front clip. you need the bumper, bumper cover, headlights, headlight motors(firebird), fenders, and hood. three hours later youve swapped!
i got the ls1 front clip sitting in my garage right now:D
mr_muff 06-15-2003, 06:05 AM the only major difference between the years are
98 had larger injectors buy 2 sizes than 99-01 and changed them back in 02 or 01, i think. 98-00 have a bigger cam for more higher rpm hp. 01-02 has the 5.3 truck cam for more low end torque but less hp. 01-02 has the ls6 intake stock. 00 and newer has a better clutch. 00 has the new style exhaust manifolds.
they will supposivly change the master and the slave for the clutch if still under warranty as the 98 and 99 ones are a pos. i wish i woulda known that when my car was still under warranty cause the clutch is ****ed up now. happened to my car the first time a couple weeks ago at 50000 km. i guess it took them 2 years to get people with around 50000+ km on them to bring them back windering why the clutch pedal is sticking or the clutch won't disengage/engage properly. :(
Pandamonkey 06-15-2003, 12:05 PM I wish I had bought a 98 with a LS1 and swapped over the front with one of you guys........
Is it too late?;)
93formula 06-15-2003, 03:19 PM this should help you out of what year to buy.

Smoke Show 06-16-2003, 12:30 AM thanks guys for everything... i'm still not too sure what to get though..
if i was to get the newere style it would be a 98 cause hte price just skyrockets from there..
is there anything wrong with a 94 or 95 camaro z28?
93TAWicked1 06-16-2003, 12:37 AM You shoulda bought my 93, I am in the process of selling it for 6000USD, if it falls through I'll let you know. It has a few mods :) its pretty fast for an LT1. My 93 is actually where that phrase comes from :)
If I was going to buy another LT1 it would be a 95 single cat 6spd and NOTHING ELSE. If I found the PERFECT 93 ( I like SD and cheap!) or 97 (new interior) I MIGHT think about it
sideways_Into_3rd 06-16-2003, 01:57 AM bobby, if that falls thru .. i still want those breaks :D dont forget about me ;) just think of when u wanna go for a ride in my nitrous infested LT1 .. u wanna be safe and make sure it can stop properly right ;)
hey by the time u get to getting a ride i might've upgraded the NX to a direct port with a 350 shot ;)
