What exactly does claybar do?

Just like the topic said. I've got some bug stuff on the nose of my car that won't come off with bug remover. And I'm getting my car painted in August, will it help for the paint to stick better if I not wax it until then. I haven't waxed it in a while and someone said to not wax it until after I get it painted. Thanks for the help!

1)A clay bar will remove any surface contaminates (bugs, overspray, tar, etc). It will NOT remove scratches, swirls,or paint defects,or anything that has bitten into the clear coat (particularly left-on bird crap and acid rain etching). It should take the bugs off of your front end.

2)Go ahead and wax your car if you so desire. If the car is being painted in a couple of months, the shop will have to clean the car with a prep solution and will have to sand/scuff the whole car,so the wax won't be an issue.
