I think everyone needs to read one line of that article very carefully:

The Mustang is the 11th best selling car in the U.S. for the first five months of 2003.

Remember, we are talking about a REAR DRIVE, 4 passenger, sports coupe that comes in only a coupe and a convertible, not some family car or some type of practical AWD vehicle.

Where is my fifty dollars?!?!?

Heck, I'd take fifty dollars to test drive an Echo!

11th best selling car for the first 5 months of '03? Pretty darn good! If this keeps up it'll definitely be in the top ten when the new model comes out.

Oh, wait...I forgot...There's no market for this car...What a pity!

Free 50 bucks for beating the **** out of a Mustang cant be bad.

Maybe GM will counter by giving away flowers to Mustang owners who test drive the ION.

I'd go test drive one, but there is not market for these cars.

That's the same thing I thought while I was purchasing mine.

Just found out more, you have to have a certain piece of paper from Ford in order to get the 50. But you could always go drive one just for the heck of it. ;)

11th best selling car???. Not bad for a model that's already in its 5th year of production, and a car that many would consider impractical. The mustangs market share can only increase, thanks in part to the f-bod's departure. No surprise there.

Chuck, LMAO! that was hilarious! flowers for test driving an Ion! :D

On the serious side, 11th best selling car and supposedly there is no market for this kind of car, yeah right. kudos to Ford for continuing to do well with the Mustang and trying to bring members from the other camp over. damnit GM, where is our 5th gen????

Good edit. :)

I wonder how it compares to a Cavalier coupe? I tried finding out myself, but every place I look, it's all combined sales. If anyone can find out , please post it.

If there is a 5th gen soon.we have to thank Ford. because it doesn't get more "in your face" that this

copy paste from blue oval article: Ford Division wants to keep the momentum going by offering 100,000 current Camaro and Firebird owners with a $50.00 test drive incentive through 30 June 2003.

The Mustang is the only remaining pony car left from the 60s era.

See Gm?

No more rwd Impalas, no more Camaros, Hmmm... If I ws buying a new car right now it'd be a Mustang more than likely and I have never owned a Ford before.

Ford is kickin a$$ on a car that dates back to 1979... just imagine what's going to happen when the new Mustang comes out next year

 Mustang

I was raised to be anti-Ford my whole life. But if GM doesnt offer a 5th gen when I'm going to buy my first new car, well then it will be a Mustang and wont need $50. Just the fact that its what I want in a car makes all the difference.

I doubt the issue is if Camaro comes back. If Chevrolet has their way, you could safely bet it will be back by 2007. The question is when as as what (meaning continuing as a GT, or returning to it's pony car-ish roots).

The market is still there.

The formula still works.

We just need a quality, modern Camaro.

I went and test drove a 03 Cobra coupe and got the $50, well its supposed to be on the way...
I know the salesman there and they work close with our business for parts needs so I'm at the dealer 2-3 times a week and showed him the offer I got in the mail from Ford. He said it only applied to the V6, GT, or Mach 1, but said take the Cobra out and I'll just write in you test drove a GT.

At this point in the game I have absolutely no problem buying a Ford product. At least I can get a RWD, V8 Sedan (and I would have four to choose from) from Ford as well as a Pony car.

I bet Ford sent 100,000 of those tickets to people that most likely probably wouldn't know much about the f-bod and drive them casually.. easy targets..

Not this owner, :irk: seems like a random thing to me. They sent one to me and I have a 1 year old car, probably not in the position to get anything else right now much less a Mustang.

-I thought they sent the offer to me because I went on to Ford's site and requested info on the 03 Cobra...of which I still haven't gotten....

You know, If I were a Mustang marketing guy, this would be a great way to use Camaro's absence to pull in some devoted Camaro drivers.

Pay them to test out a Mustang to dispell a few misconceptions, a few will buy them, word of mouth will take care of the rest. If the car & experience is good, more converts from a segment of buyers that tend to be very passionate about their cars.

Pretty devious if this is the case.

Well, I test drove a GT once for a dealership promotion. Not only was the car unimpressive, the salesman was a slimey greaseball character that...only after he found I wouldn't buy....found out that the promotion was for new cars only....

I was happy to leave that guy hanging...and better yet, I left knowing I drove off in the better car.
