Smile Hey MikeLS...

I was going to E-mail you this question, but I figured we could get good discussionn going here, so here it goes:

A few months back when you waxed over Zaino, What did you use, How did it look, Did it affect the coats of Zaino and Would you do it again?

The reason I ask is because I'm thinking of trying it as a short term solution to getting that "Deep" look. My paint is shiny, but doesn't really have the deepness and darkness of a silicone filled wax.

For me it's worth a shot.

Jeff

I put Nu Finish over Zaino once, and it really looked good, and didn't seem to hurt the Zaino. Nu Finish is also a synthetic polish.

moparman,
Using NuFinish over Zaino is a BIG mistake! NuFinish is HIGHLY abrasive and it likely stripped every bit of your Zaino off. NF is a synthetic but it contains very harsh chemicals that are detrimental to Zaino or any other wax you may have on the car. Just thought you need to know...

Jeff,
When I waxed over Zaino, I used a pure carnauba wax without any cleaners or polishes called One Grand Blitz. Initially, it looked/felt pretty good over Zaino, gave a slicker and little shinier appearance. I didn't notice much improvement in depth as Zaino already gives my finish a very deep look, so it was hard to tell on the depth end. However, shortly thereafter I noticed that the optical clarity of Zaino was compromised, my paint looked sort of grainy with the wax over Zaino. That being said, I don't think I'll ever do it again unless I feel the urge to strip off all the Zaino layers and start over with a wax from scratch. (Ain't gonna happen! ) If you decide to try it yourself, you MUST select a wax or sealant with absolutely no cleaners or polishes which will remove the Zaino. Experimenting can be fun, but it can be a disaster too if you choose the wrong proucts to mix.

Will adding a topper to Zaino affect the layers of Z? Well, Sal says yes, and I have to agree with him. Even pure waxes with no cleaners/polishes contain solvents, like mineral spirits (naphtha), which help carry the wax to the paint. So, in theory, those solvents will eventually eat their way through some or all of the Zaino allowing the oils and silicones from the carnauba to seep under the Zaino layers breaking it down partially or completely. I didn't leave the carnauba on my finish long enough for it to degrade my Zaino, so I didn't notice a big reduction in my Zaino coats. If I had left Blitz on for a couple months, the story could have been different on how it affected Zaino. This and the fact that you cant easily add more Zaino over another wax means I won't try it again. I'll save my experiments to other cars from now on, because I really don't want to take away from the show car look I already have.

I now adivse that Zainoers not top Zaino with anything but more Zaino. But, if you really want to experiment, here are a few good pure carnaubas that may interest you: Blitz (best value hands down), P21S(S100, same wax, very high shine), Pinnacle (overpriced but decent), Meguiar's #26 (causes yellowing on my paint though)....

Nope, did not strip the Zaino. It seemed to enhance the stuff.

Yeah it did, NuFinish is loaded with abrasives, oils, and uses a solvent similar to kerosene, it would strip Zaino or any other wax or polish, you would not know it the time of using the NuFinish as the oils from the NuFinish would give a tempory glow to the paint. NuFinish is similar to the 3M Swirl Mark Remover in abrasivness.

MikeLS is correct.

NuFinish is a great old, faded paint product, the kind of stuff you would use before selling an old car, they used to run an add for Nufinish on TV where they went to a junk yard and rubbed a junker with old faded oxidized paint with NuFinish and then it did not look too bad.

MikeLS is correct.

Thumbs up

Thanks Mike/everyone.

I think I'll refrain fron trying this...sounds like too much can go the wrong way and not enough can go my way.
