need help with streeking windshield

Ok, for over a year I have been fighting streeks on may windshield. From advice of several I cleaned the glass with Invisible Glass cleaner and newspaper. I then used Rain-X which did help by clearing the water off of the windshield, but the streeks are still there. I felt the glass and it feels pitted and you can see the etching in the glass from the wipers. What can I do to polish the glass to a smooth finish again? Thanks for the help. Sorry so long.

If it feels scratchy, try Eastwoods glass polishing kit. It should fill in minor scratches. If its more of a film, try Barkeepers friend. It can be had at Target, Walmart, etc. . . Similar to Ajax or Comet, but a little less abrasive.
