Angry lt 1 randonly overheating

Here is the scoop,

the other day, my lt1 over heated. i let it cool down and tried it agian the next day. I made it about 30 miles and then it overheated agian. I let it cool, and made it home with no incident. over the next few days, it randomly overheated several times, with varing milage and driving styles.
I have replaced the t stat, rad cap, filled the rad, bled the system, checked the sensors, the fans, checked the h20 pump etc. etc. etc. Everything checked out fine.

What the heck is going on here. I am scared to take this thing across town with such randomness...

I am fairly sure that is not a head gasket or cracked headalso because if so would it not overheat rather quickly and consistantly? just a thought.

Anyway, I have searched around on the net, and can't seem to find a problem quiet like mine, so any advise or suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks

john

If you blew a head gasket or cracked a head, you'd probably have coolant in your oil, or vice versa. Are your fans coming on? Actually, make that are BOTH your fans coming on? If one is dead, it'll make a difference on a warm day with the A/C on.

I know this sounds stupid but check your return line coming back from the heads on the radiator. A friend of mine had his crossed with the overflow and it was causing his to run hot. He switched them around and it never overheated again.

A couple of things to check, did you use the reverse cooling t-stat, 18psi cap, make sure the air dam is in place, also check for anything blocking the condensor.

it is a new water pump, that is not weeping out of the wep hole. nothing infront of the condinsor, and no water loss. It is completely random. Yesterday I drove it 5 miles and it over heated. Today, I made it 50 miles and then it over heated. I dont know, but it is giving me fits!!!
Please continue with the advise, I allways take it into consideration adn even double check my self when you guys mention stuff I think I have already done, so keep it commin!

I am beginning to really question a cracked block, heads etc...but it dosent add up

In a sitaution like this, just take it to a reputable shop. Might be expensive, but the diagnostic will tell you exactly whats wrong, and save you the headache with playing the guessing game. Then you'll know exactly what needs to be fixed, whether you can do it yourself or you could have the shop do it.

Check for debris in front of the radiator. Take the top radiator cover off and look in between the radiator and AC condenser and also in front of the condenser and fans. Mine sucked up one of those plastic supermarket bags up in there causing me similar problems.
